Can we limit comments to 300 characters?

Comment sections on posts are a great feature. Yet there are ways we can make things better by limiting the length of a comment.

Comments are great for small interjections, without throwing the whole thread off topic. So I don't wanna get rid of them like some have suggested. But they can be a problem when you've got to scroll through miles of words in one comment.

It can be easy to get carried away writing a long written response in a comment, when it would've been better off as a reply and a new post. I suggest 300 characters being the maximum for comments.

I use comments when it seems rude to dismiss a post below.

Me too, and if the convo went in another direction and brining something to the forefront when others moved on to something else. . Like you, I am considerate in that way.

yeah, this really is a great idea. i'll look around in the admin section and see if it's possible. i think it would really improve the flow of conversations all over the forum, while still allowing people to use comments for what they were actually intended for.

and, done. that was surprisingly easy; normally you have to jump through hoops to change anything here.

if anyone disagrees feel free to speak up; i'll leave it at 300 for now as an experiment but we can always fiddle with it as needed.

Personally I think 4-500 is better. I have had to remove spaces and periods just to get in a couple of sentences.

Its a good idea but i think limiting it to just 25 or 50 at most would be much more efficient. Comment feature should be used just to make a quick comment not a lengthily post or a whole argument.

Sometimes i wonder if people just don't want their post count to be embarrassingly high. ?

Some don't care what their post count is.

It shouldn't be any more of an issue than how many "likes" we have.
