    Mexican food

By far my favorite food. I lived in a different part of the United States growing up so I never knew about it.
But once I got to the West Coast, I tried Mexican food and loved it. There’s nothing To hate about it. Great munchie food and could easily eat it everyday. Which I sometimes do. I have even eaten in Mexico and the food was awesome. Please share your experience with this delectable cuisine.

Once, when I was in Mexico (I forget where), I had grilled cactus leaves with some kind of salsa(?) thing to put on it.
    Delicious!

Seafood is my favorite. We have none in landlocked Iowa. There's lots of Mexican, though. All the Mehicanos moved here. At first the white man complained. He's not complaining now. Every so often I go get the number 13, which is tasty but always makes me puke. I have a really nervous stomach.

The best Mexican place here is Los Pinos. I haven't been in several months though; I rarely eat out. But the last time I was there I got a plate of nachos with all the stuff on it, and way too many margaritas.

I guess my favorite would be either their chicken enchiladas or the steak & pepper fajitas.

I used to make this a lot as a side dish. Damn tasty.

            Mexican Rice

            Ingredients:
            • 3 tablespoons margarine
            • 1¼ cups hot water
            • 2 chicken bouillon cubes
            • 1 cup long grain enriched white rice
            • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
            • 2 cloves minced garlic
            • 1 small can diced green chilies
            • ½ teaspoon cumin
            • ⅛ teaspoon pepper
            • 1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
            • ½ teaspoon chili powder

            Directions:

Dissolve bouillon cubes in hot water. In skillet melt margarine and add rice, onion and garlic. Stir continuously until onion is tender and rice starts to brown. Pour bouillon liquid over rice. Add all other ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring well. Cook covered over low heat about 25 minutes. When done let stand 10 minutes, covered, then fluff with a fork.

yeah i can't remember my last chinese meal. the local chinese place closed when covid first happened, and i haven't heard anything about them reopening.

there is another local chinese place, but i've always kind of steered clear of there after the one time i did get food there and there were literally a bunch of elementary school aged children who seemed to be running the kitchen.

California Burritos are my favorite. They are a bit Americanized but most all the Mexican food places serve them and they are the staple of the area. I don't believe they have the reputation of like Philly Cheesesteaks, New York/Chicago Pizza based off living up in the Bay Area and never hearing about them, but they should. Maybe if they were called San Diego Burritos it would be more appropriate.

I like Burritos, Enchiladas, Tacos, and Tostadas.

Mexican food is great. Not something i can eat all the time though. I find Caribbean food to satisfy my appetite more than any other. I can eat that almost everyday. Perhaps from being of Caribbean descent.

Anyone been out to some remote village in Mexico tried the local cuisine?, because the food is usually totally different in a culture to what we get back home

Some little village in Mexico, I seriously doubt the food even remotely resembles Taco bell

Other than that I like Thai, Lebanese and Indian more....maybe Mexican coming in equal 4th with Chinese

I had a friend who went to Mexico every other week and brought me me adobada tacos once. Aside from it being the first time I tried adobada, there wasn't much of a difference I could tell. I've had it in the US a few times since.

Places here serve tongue, tortas, horchata, and other dishes I would consider more Mexican oriented that I don't see at Americanized Mexican restaurants like On the Border or Chipotle.

I assume that Mexico, China, India and so forth are the same as the U.S. in that there are regional differences in the food. In the U.S., for example, there's a difference between BBQ from Memphis and BBQ from St. Louis (or so I've heard). And people from the Southeast tend to put a lot of unhealthy (and tasty!) stuff in their food as compared to the rest of the country.

In the US Taco Bell and Taco John's and the like are labeled "westmex." It's definitely not authentic Mexican food. Other places are run by real life Mexicans, though.

I like the lengua tacos and the barbacoa tacos a lot and any kind of seafood tacos. I've had shrimp, octopus, mahi mahi, you name it. Hate American style tacos with the hard shell that just shatters when you bite into it.

I dunno... There is nothing in the Bay I've had that's made me think it can compete with what they are working with down here. Granted I've never had Mission Burritos and been relegated mostly to East Bay.

I'll take the Bay in Pizza, Chinese and Thai Food tho.
