i think this must be getting trendy because i keep seeing stuff about it.
roller skates are not something i've owned since i was a child but i'm kind of interested.

i already have a "best of" i believe. my usual method with bands from way back who made lots of albums before i even knew them.. or was born, haha, is to get a greatest hits, then get the album with my favourite song from that on it, and just pretend it's their only album until i know it well, then onto the next on. otherwise i get overwhelmed. that's what i've been doing with Thin Lizzy.. they now have three albums in my world : ) I'll go with Aqualung first then. it's a song i like.

      If you should go skating
On the thin ice of modern life
Dragging behind you the silent reproach Of a million tear-stained eyes
Don't be surprised when a crack in the ice
      Appears under your feet
You slip out of your depth and out of your mind
With your fear flowing out behind you
As you claw the thin ice

I know one thing, I went recently to look to buy roller skates and it was all sold out. Looks like if you wanna buy them, it will be online.

at a quick glance, a lot of places online seem to be sold out or sold out in most sizes. confirms my suspicion of trendy. it's so weird. who decided everyone was going to take up rollerskating?

I used to make out at the roller skating rink when I was a kid. Also got permanently banned for launching a bottle rocket inside the building.

Haven't had "skates" since a kid, but "blades" in jr high/high school. Brother kinda took them when I left for Uni (yes, we call it "college" here, but it was technically a university, so I call it that ) I have not skated again really since, but I have recently wished I had some. Would have liked to try again. I tried ice skating in my Uni years, and that was fun the first time. Unfortunately, the second time I couldn't find a comfortable pair of skates...I think my ankle was bad or something. Shame. I was feeling more brave that night. Still, I'd likely have chickened out from attempting turns. It just doesn't make sense to me, how can you turn in something flat??

no, not really. back in elementary school they would end each school year with a trip to skate world for all the kids who handed in a majority of their assignments. then one time in college we got drunk and went skating. and that's been the extent of it as far as i can remember.

i haven't seen anything about it recently either, so i wonder if the trend is just in england so far.

i'm also curious why it was assumed that j ruth is the only one here who knows jethro tull? they're pretty famous, and there's several members here who were actually alive back during their heyday.

Jessica nope. There is actually a local girl who was doing hooping stuff here a couple years ago, but I thought that was an isolated incident. Plus, trends seem to get here about 10 years after they hit the rest of the world so I still think she might have just decided to hoop independently.

I accidentally wore the rental skates home once, and I was too scared to bring them back, and my mom wouldn't believe I didn't steal them. So fuck skates.

my method is to comment the post that has been commented on, and @ me.
i could have just quoted you like i am doing now.
but for future reference, like if a post is way back in a thread, my method works.

I'd go to the skating rink in junior high and my first couple years of high school, but mainly to play the video games. I ran into my younger cousin and one of her friends once. I was sitting at one of the tables and the friend was wearing skates, lost control and spilled a Pepsi on my head. Later on my cousin let me know the friend had a crush on me. Nothing ever happened though.

In-line skates were big for a few years back in the 90's, then kind of went away. Do you mean in-line skates or the actual 4 wheel rollerskates? I had no idea this was a current trend.

i might have remained unaware if i didn't use instagram and then find that rollerskates are currently hard to buy
yeah i remember the in-line skates trend, that was when i was about ten. the ones i bought were slightly too small and hurt my feet and i barely used them.
i was also really fearful of things where i might fall and get hurt when i was a kid, but i'm not now. which is funny because i think it's meant to the the other way around and you get less reckless with age.

all this talk of skating alleys reminds me of the one that used to be around here when I was a kid. We went a number of times and every time I'd fall on my ass at least once! haha. The last one I remember was an 8th grade graduation party (i think 8th grade)... then the place closed down. Sad because that was when I got roller blades and was a little more adventurous, even if I'd still fall occasionally. lol (although, it seems I had roller blades at the place too. hmm. maybe memory IS fading! :/)

I'll never forget the music though! I mean, it's not stuff I listen to now, so I can't spout off songs atm, but when I hear them I'm like "hey! skating memories! :P" (basically 90s R&B)

i don't remember any other songs they played, but i don't think i ever made it to skateworld without hearing this one:

i'm not sure if that's the right version; there's a bunch of them and none of them sound exactly like i remember. i also had no clue i was listening to billy joel at the time.
