I've never tried. I think I should, and will. I have watched videos of it being done.

When my girlfriend and I were first started living together
about two months in I took her on a camping weekend.
I forgot the lighter. We didn’t go to camp ground,
We just drove and found a remote area with lots of trees.
A grassy clearing And a pond near by,
So I get out the tent and I start to put it up, but I forgot the pegs.
Used some sticks as pegs. Got that set up. Then went out
gathers wood and some dry twigs, grass. I wanted to
impress her with my manly abilities, No lighter!

I brought along some canned food, tomato soup, can opener, pots
frying pan, utensils. Had a cooler with food, bacon and eggs in it and
some beer and wine, I then realized I didn’t have a lighter.
I tried rubbing to sticks together for about an hour. I got blisters.
so we ate cold tomato soup, hurt like hell using the can opener,
I told her it was Gazpacho.

The sun went down, we sat in the dark, eating our gazpacho and drinking
boxed wine and beer. It was so cold that night. My hands were blistered,
but she thanked me and gave me a great blowjob that night. My entire
body ached from all the stuff I did as she sat back and relaxed,

The morning when we woke there was a cow outside our tent.
We decided we should pack up and leave. She appreciated the efforts
I made to starting fire with my own two hands, even though I failed.
I was glad she suggested we leave. I did not know how I was going to cook
the bacon and eggs. We hit a little truck stop for breakfast, she paid, and went home,

I can do it as long as one of the sticks is a match.

But seriously I have a little emergency tool with flint and steel and I want to see if I manage to get a fire going next time I'm camping.

I am fairly certain you could start a fire with a tin can.
Polish it up and use it like a mirror reflecting a beam
of light onto the tinder. There is always garbage to be
found that can be used. A glass bottle would
                      work too.

I may have imagined this, but I'm pretty sure some Deadhead friends of mine told me that outside concert venues there would be a person starting a fire with two sticks or something. That would have been back in the early 90s.

It would be a good skill to have. Can't be too hard, humans have had fire since before we were really humans.

                          I looked it up online,
You can use a tin can to do it, the bottom of it.
You have to polish it up. Fast and easy.
The concave bottom once polished is perfect..
There is always garbage to be found.
                          Tin cans are everywhere

I just wish I had though of this while on my
                          romantic camping trip.

I was young and stupid - 3 years ago.

What should you use for tinder? I'd like to try that.
