  • The fascinating bare foot

I was lounging in the hot tub this week.

I looked at my wet n clean bare foot kinda off on a side angle in admiration.

The bottom skin of the foot is alien like when you pose it to crinkle it and ripple it.

I've boxed without hand wraps and my knuckles are trashed in minutes
I've dug a hole with a shovel without wearing gloves and have gotten blisters on my hands in 30 minutes.
I've gotten heat rash in the crotch after a few hours walking around in the hot weather
I've had a layer of skin come off my knees after a day of flooring without knee pads.
I've tripped and fallen down scraping my skin in milli seconds.

The bottom of the bare foot is like no other part of the body. It's so unique as an ending of a body limb. It has such a collection of blood vessels and membranes you would think walking for any period of time, your foot would burst open and bleed to death.

The bare foot seems to be impervious to acne but it gets other skin conditions like no where else on the body. (Corns, Bunyans)

The bare foot can walk on hot coals and be ok.
The bare foot can walk on miles of dog shit, rinse off and looks fresh again.

In closing, the bottom bare foot is an amazing body part that we never really see.

I didn't see it Glen! But congratulations! I'm a little behind you at 12 years, but I don't know what day it was.

I think you and I are the only serious barefooters here.

And yes, Pete. Feet are amazing and beautiful parts of the body.

I have a memory of a Leonardo Da Vinci quote about the human foot being a work of art and feat of engineering, with which I agree.

I went to high school with a girl who was so ashamed of her feet. I think at some point she hammed it up because it kind of became her "thing" to be ashamed of her feet but it was based on truth. I've also heard a comedian refer to women's pinky toes as "stubbed out cigarettes" and I thought that was 100% accurate lol

Interesting. A lot of artists I follow on Instagram always complain about hands being the most difficult to draw and I always thought that was a weird commonality amongst people trying to recreate the human form.

yeah I do think hands are probably harder to draw than feet. if you think about it, they go into more different positions/shapes.

yes oKAY! i am not as serious as GLEN! because yes i wear shoes when it gets cold sometimes.

But i think that is balanced by going on hikes though the new zealand wilderness barefoot ;-)

you used to post in the barefoot part of hip though, so yes. for some reason i felt like you wouldn't think of yourself as a "serious" barefooter. do you?

No, I mostly posted there to make fun of people for taking it so seriously. I go on hikes barefoot and stuff like that too, but to me it's not a whole lifestyle, it's just being comfortable.

Well yeah I wouldn't call it a whole lifestyle either..
if people ask why I'm not wearing shoes my only answer is that it's comfortable.
So I guess by "serious" I just mean percentage of time.
