  • Do you know how to change a tyre? (tire)

One of life’s challenges. Are you a tyre changer or get someone else to do it for you?

  • #2
You noticed that in Irminsuls post in the chat thread too, she changes her own car tyres
yeah, I read that and thought, yeah I would so not do that myself

i pay other people to do that, well, would if I had a car

That crucifix spanner thing you take out of the boot, slips on the wheel nuts and you either punch yourself on the face or cut your hand on the wheel arch, been there

Yep I did notice it in Irms post and thought it would be an interesting topic.

They are pretty easy to change. I’m surprised about the amount of people who don’t know how to change one.

          Nah
I had a flat tire a few weeks ago. I thought I would try to put the spare on myself, gave up on that idea pretty much immediately and called my brother.

There are a lot of things I will power through and figure out how to do myself but anything to do with cars.. nah.

Bike tires are probably harder to change because there's a chain to take off and brakes to unnattach.

Motor vehicle wheels are literally 5 studs you undo and that's it. You just need to find the right spot on the vehicle to put the jack under, which is Diagramme and highlighted in your user manual. Or just go to Youtube there'll be a video and you'll know in 5 seconds.

Untighten the studs while car on ground so wheel isn't rotating when it's off the ground.

I keep my tire about 5mm off the ground when I take it off so it's not too heavy to lift the next tire into place.

Then I Finger tighten the studs back on, then make them a little tighter as the weight comes into them and then properly tight once back on ground. Done.

The longest and hardest part of the job is winding your stock standard jack up to the car lifting point. After that it's really simple and easy.

Back in college the class and I were on a field trip out to the forest with 2 passenger vans. I rode the van in front. We got to the campsite far away from cell towers. And noticed the 2nd van wasn’t behind us. So after waiting we went back to check on them. Turns out they got a flat tire. The worst part was the girls were the ones changing the tire while the guys stood back and watched! Because they didn’t know what to do to change a tire. I wanted to bitch slap all those wimpy manlets for making the ladies do the dirty work.

Men like that are going to be society’s downfall.

You're stoned. Have you seen women change a tire? It's like getting a free lap dance for playing dumb. And thanks to 21st century media, men can get away with stupid shit like this!

First you have to ask, does the tire WANT to change?

I know how to do it, I have helped do it...but it can be really physically difficult if the tire is old and rusted. In that case--AAA to the rescue.

tyres are rubber mate ! Rubber cant rust

Is it an American thing ? the tyre is on the wheel , The wheel is on the car , Changing a wheel with a tyre on is easy changing a tyre has more to it as the wheel has to be balanced (unless you only drive at 30 mph ?

The rusty parts are the nuts that you need to unscrew, not the tire itself. I guess we call the whole thing “the tire”, although technically yeah, the tire is on the wheel.

the guy didnt put the dot towards the stem

tires have a coloured dot on the sidewall that is the light spot and the tire should always be mounted with the dot near the valve stem

if you got rusty steel belts in your tires you should have changed them at least a decade ago

shoulda drilled a hole in each tire to let the water drain.
                        no rust that way
