U.S. Church Membership Falls Below Majority For The First Time

Thank God, finally some good news.

In 2020, 47% of U.S. adults belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque. That's down more than 20 percentage points from the turn of the century and appears to be primarily due to the rise in Americans with no religious preference.

For the first time in Gallup's polling history, less than half of U.S. adults report belonging to a church, synagogue or mosque.

This is troubling news. Most people aren’t smart enough to be atheists. To be a good atheist, you have to be your own god. When unintelligent people don’t follow God, the State becomes their god. As a result, they become Democrats. The state, the media, and the government becomes their holy trinity.

I wonder if spiritual but not religious beliefs are considered "nones" in the poll. It was unclear to me that the irreligious was comprised entirely of Atheists and Agnostics.

It seems to me like there are a lot of beliefs now which I would broadly classify as Pagan. They don't follow the Abrahamic religions but they still practice or ascribe to folk traditions, magick, or other beliefs which invoke the supernatural. The decline in religious membership roughly corresponds with the popularization of alternative "new age" beliefs, although the decline becomes much more sharp and steady around the time the New Atheists came about.

Here there's already a difference being made between people that identify as christian but are not church going or a member of any church community and the classic church going christian. But even a lot of the church goers are pretty reasonable I guess our public education system is for a large part to thank for that

Oh yah, forgot about that faith. Pastafarian is surely the fastest growing religion in the US.

The OP's chart is off and inaccurate. Church and cult membership is at an all time high.

The data from the chart did not include the Church of Wokeness. Many on this site are members.

Church of Wokeness might be a bit more literal than I believe you intended. Some of the comments to this video mention leaving the church due to wokeness being preached.
