Do you have a favorite atheist/agnostic?

Do you have a favorite atheist?

I like Pete's Draggun who has a guarantee of eternal salvation , and misty is looking out for him and she is a powerful force! I can feel it, and they shall have a happy reunion. This life is short and our eyes aren't fully opened. But it is only for a brief moment!

But I would say I like this guy "Hawking". I hope he made it to heaven!

i typically don't ask people about their religious views, and my favorites are usually the ones who don't feel the need to tell me unprompted.

Completely agree. It's just as obnoxious to run around shouting about disbeliefs as it is to run around shouting about beliefs. I usually don't have much to do with people who feel the need to brag about their beliefs or lack thereof. Unfortunately I work in a workplace where everyone is completely inappropriate with their faith and makes us do a "devotion" every morning and I honestly hate it.

He was an extremely brilliant physicist, who had two marriages that were disasters, one of them where the female may have been physically abusing him according to multiple people, but he would not file a complaint against her, he was disabled, his whole life was one of agony and suffering!

Hawking lived a lifetime of martyrdom, and didn't have Religion as a crutch, or opioid of the mind, and he didn't euthanize himself.

He found reason to go on living. I simply would not have been able to find meaning in life, independent of faith that I had to carry my cross and affliction in this life, with hope of something better in the next.

I do admire how atheists in tough situations like his, can learn to appreciate passing pleasures in this short fleeting life, that I have little appreciation for, things I take no delight in, cannot find my happiness or much meaning in.

I don't really have opinions on his personal life...

I read A Briefer History of Time, which he co-authored and it was pretty good. The book conveyed rather complex scientific topics and theories in fairly easy to understand language, which is one of the aspects of his writing that I think contributed to his popularity. Would recommend!

Although, he did state "Philosophy is dead", an interpolation of Nietzche's pithy declaration "God is dead" but I didn't find Hawking's version nearly as effective, kind of dumb even, with context taken into consideration.
