Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. – Anonymous

There is absolutely no evidence anywhere in support of the existence of a god. The bible is a collection of religious texts that was constructed by a group of men far back in antiquity from writings that were selectively altered to suit the times.

Neither is there any evidence for the existence of Jesus. Nothing, not a single artifact, manuscript, record, eye witness account exists anywhere that survived from the time in which he supposedly lived. All references to him are from accounts written decades after his supposed death.

The mere fact that a heretical Jewish preacher named Yeshua lived around 30AD, had a group of followers and was later executed certainly does not mean that the son of god lived at that time.

If god is the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end, knows what has passed and what is to come, why do people pray and think it will make any difference?” – Mark Fairclough

God is silent and inactive. Men and women the world over do far more for mankind then any god has ever done. If a passerby noticed a man carrying an automatic rifle entering a school, they would immediately take some form of action to stop him. But god does nothing.

The only evidence ever given for the existence of God has been, “I know he exists therefore he does.” There is otherwise not a single shred of real evidence to prove the existence of god. Nobody has seen him do anything or say anything. Without exception all those people who have claimed to have either seen or spoken with him have been found to be insane or liars.

Elite athletes make first place, strange shapes appear on toast and some people narrowly escape death, but amputated limbs never regrow, mountains never move and food never spontaneously appears in front of the hundreds of children that starve to death each hour.” – Anonymous

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” – Epicurus

Some would ask, how could a perfect God create a universe filled with so much that is evil. They have missed a greater conundrum: why would a perfect God create a universe at all?” – Sister Miriam Godwinson.

If god is the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end, knows what has passed and what is to come, why do people pray and think it will make any difference?” – Mark Fairclough

Prayer: To ask the laws of the universe to be annulled on behalf of a single petitioner, confessedly unworthy.” – Ambrose BierceTwo hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer.” – Unknown

Being an atheist is like being the only sober person in the car – and no one will let you drive.” – Anonymous

You do not need the Bible to justify love, but no better tool has been invented to justify hate.” – Richard Weatherwax

Because if the only way the supreme creator of the entire universe can demonstrate his existence to me is to create images of Mary or Jesus on food items, I’m not impressed.” – Anonymous

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” — Anonymous

We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.” – Gene Roddenberry

Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements – the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life – weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be today.” – Lawrence Krauss

Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions.” – Blaise Pascal

I’m sorry if my insensitivity towards your beliefs offends you. But guess what – your religious wars, jihads, crusades, inquisitions, censoring of free speech, brainwashing of children, forcing girls into underage marriages, female genital mutilation, stoning, pederasty, homophobia and rejection of science and reason offend me. So I guess we’re even.” – Anonymous

If God had wanted us to believe in him, he would have existed.” – Linda Smith

If Jesus is the son of god, but also god himself, then he supposedly sacrificed himself to himself to save what he created from himself. He also, therefore, prayed to himself and begged himself not to require himself be crucified in order to appease himself and save the world from the wrath of himself.” – Anonymous

There’s no hell mentioned in the Old Testament. The punishment of the dead is not specified there. It’s only with gentle Jesus, meek and mild, that the idea of eternal torture for minor transgressions is introduced.” – Christopher Hitchens

Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense.” – Chapman Cohen

Faith does not give you the answers, it just stops you asking the questions.”- Frater Ravus

There is nothing more telling of a person’s fundamental lack of perspective and humility than an insistence that if they cannot reconcile their beliefs with reality, then reality itself must be wrong.” – Anonymous

I'm Atheist or perhaps more specifically Agnostic Atheist and I do think the problem of Evil is as convincing an argument as Time Travel paradoxes into the past are to rule out the notion of the traditional conception of God. However, I think there are still some issues which are not as thoroughly convincing against the idea of a God not imbued with all the active powers and moral properties.

Fine Tuning of the Universe - Do we just accept apparent fine tuning or the observation that many aspects of the Universe reside within fairly specific parameters to result in the Universe we see as a brute fact? Is the anthropic principle satisfactorily explanatory?

Laws of Nature - Where do the constants and Universal Laws of nature come from?

Consciousness - I could see this as potentially more easily explainable than the other two one day but still the presence of Consciousness is somewhat mystifying.

I believe in a higher power, and I've experienced direct evidence of a higher order of existence. It's really not far-fetched. What's far-fetched is the idea that human beings are the top of the pyramid.

I don't believe in any religion's interpretation of this. I just know there is a mind Supreme.

And I'm really not impressed at all by atheist thought on this subject. They just throw the baby out with the bath water, and make spurious claims like, despite the fact they haven't looked, nothing can possibly be found.

I find atheism disturbing as a consequence, as it really is a rejection of rational thought. Forget religion; that's not important. Audiogen listed some things which are important. The existence of a higher order of mind is all that this boils down to.

Some of you can't fathom that. I certainly can. And, like I'm telling you, I've experienced this directly. I can't describe or explain it. All I can ask is that you don't get too haughty and reject it outright, as impossible, without a smidgeon of supporting evidence which can reason why this is impossible.

It's not a matter of religion. It's a matter of having some pride in the human race. When it comes to ultimate reality, trust me, keep your minds open. From what little I do know, I know that we aren't even close to understanding the meaning of this. I'm smart enough to understand that.

        Perhaps you'd like to elaborate?

My experiences are beyond the current paradigm. I'd explain if I could understand them, but it's beyond my understanding.

Atheism is in the broadest sense an absence of belief in the existence of deities. Less broadly, atheism is a rejection of the belief that any deities exist. In an even narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Wikipedia

In my own case it is the total rejection of the biblical interpreted god … an invisible entity who created the universe and everything in it, then a man out of dust and a woman out of that man’s rib. Personally I am more inclined to accept that the earth was colonized by the so called “god and or gods” who came here from a much more advanced planet. (Yeah … yeah I know all about the “god was a spaceman” bullshit.)

In my opinion if historians stopped claiming that the Epic of Gilgamesh is literature … a series of poems … stories etc and studied it correctly and as historical fact, they would find all the answers they need about how, when and where humankind evolved.

Makes sense. At least in this post you do not seem to equate the possible existence of A god with the established religions. Because if God (whatever it is) exists, it likely stands entirely apart from that manmade belief system altogether.

hi Din Djarin I have my own belief & experiences of how I interpret my guardian angels, spirit guides and being divinely protected in my life journey? I also believe that certain people that cross our paths meet us along in our life are Earth angels in human form & they were divinely put on our path to meet to help inspire improve help guide us to make the best decisions in our human life experience; ) I respect the other faiths & religions ideas of their angelic entities. Ancestral guardian angels I resonate with in thinking that loosing loved ones, loving friends, loving parents, siblings, Great grand parents & Grandparents their spiritual energies could be protecting & divinely guiding their living family members♥

niftypebble21 Hope you don't experience my questions as an attempt to corner you I am just wondering if people who believe such things sometimes just accept that its like this, or that it like doesn't matter that there's a bigger implication to what they believe but don't fill in.
'they were divinely put on our path' makes many agnostics wonder of course:, by who or what?

Personally I see it that if there are guardian angels or similar spiritual entities, than God could indeed also be an entity. I also see how that doesn't have to be like that per se Just saying, I find spiritual entities more likely to be real if there's an actual God (or whole pantheon).
Btw: I think there's something that can be called God, but we don't know what It is. An entity that consciously created the universe like a supernatural human-like creature is likely not it. That seems a little too much what medieval human contemplating would come up with (well, they actually did :P)

Din Djarin don't worry I do not feel that your questions are as an attempt to corner me lol; ) I enjoy chatting & discussing life & many topics with cool intriguing people such as you & others on TF and other interesting people I meet in my life♥
So regarding this fun spiritual discussion thanks for sharing your throughts and when you said "Just saying, I find spiritual entities more likely" yup I agree that could be a good possibility Vs just one super-natural creature etc lol : )
