Why do Muslims make their women cover up?

    Why?

    I don’t get it

if you’re dating a beautiful woman, why cover her up in a burka?

If I’m dating a pretty girl, I want the world to know. So other men can be jealous and hate themselves for being stuck with a 4 or less.

Last summer, my date asked me if I’d be ok with her wearing a spaghetti strap top in public. And I told her I wanted the world to know I was dating a hot bitch.

Since men are visual creatures of sexual attraction.
The burka keeps women from getting harassed or raped due to the compulsive nature of weak men wanting what they cannot have.

In the 1984 movie Protocol, there's this part where Goldie Hawn takes off her burka and is washing and cooling herself off in a stream with dozens of middle eastern men watching, being entertained, getting horny looking at her legs, body and hair.

Then out of nowhere, the Amir whipped and beat the men looking at Goldie. The scene ended with Goldie being instructed to cover her hair.

God forbid if she started dancing in a bikini like she did on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In

I could answer that but most forums would ban me for it so IDK why

Well it’s ok we won’t ban you here. Most likely won’t send it to the piranha pit either.

I'm no expert on Muslim society, but from what of it I do understand, This is exactly right.

If ya can't see it, you won't want it.

Kind of like going to walmart and product is on carts to be put away but still boxed up, unmarked.
You know what it might be, by where it's setting but you can't grab it 'cause it's covered and not available.
And if you mess with someone's lady they might cut your penis off. Which would suck.

mother moon -she's calling me back to her silver womb,
father of creation -takes me from my stolen tomb
seventh-advent unicorn is waiting in the skies,
a symptom of the universe, a love that never dies!

It's no different from many fundamentalist Christians believing women should not wear tight fitting or revealing clothes.

The church I was involved with for a while taught that even just sexual thoughts were a sin, and that a man can't control his thoughts if he sees a woman in yoga pants. So obviously women must take responsibility.

Just to make the point that this isn't unique to Muslims, but to patriarchal religions.

See this is how religions and cults guilt trip their followers. Almost everyone gets sexual thoughts and desires; it’s human nature. So they want the followers to feel guilty and sinful, so they can see themselves as inferior so they keep coming back to give more donations and spend more time in the organization.

But I wouldn’t say it’s “no different” than religions with dress codes against revealing clothes. Burkas are more extreme.

Burkas are also a shoplifter’s wet dream. They are very baggy and offer lots of space to conceal stolen items. And they even come with a face covering. If I owned a shop I’d forbid them.

Rape and harassment rates are no less frequent in these cultures. In fact, I’d argue they are even more misogynistic in such societies. So this point is moot.

It is not a coincidence the most rigid forms of muslim clothing for women (burkas as opposed to a hijab) originated in the sun scorched sandy areas of the middle east. Keep in mind many religious practices are also culturally determined, not solely coming from religious dogma.

This post is too long to comment on the commented post I am commenting on, but staff said they don't do banning here.

I actually have been permanently banned from this site 6-eyed. So, it does actually happen.

It's just the moderator who did so, was not making a decision that all moderators agreed on, which I did not know at the time of the ban.

Fortunately Jessica was a Moderator at the time, and allowed and invited me to create a new account with a different name, which something told me to return and read moderator posts after the ban, and see her say that.

But technically, this account I confess, is a sock puppet account , after Spiderman, my original username, was banned permanently, years ago!

Still, many discriminating and limiting habits originated from the male POV Pete's Draggun mentioned.
You asked for the reasons, he gave one.

Same with christian women that were hardly allowed to leave the house (except for doing groceries). The weaker gender and the tough and rowdy world outside and all It was all for their own good!

You're absolutely correct! That's the messed up thing!

The more women cover up and are "modest", the MORE they are sexualised.

In cultures where women are freely topless, they don't sexualise boobs.

If we want less rape, we should probably convert to a naturist society :-)

                  Wouldn't go that far lol

Yes, normalising the appearance of female skin in public decreases mad sexualizing and prudence on a societal scale. There will always be perverts , predators and overly prude and conservative folks though
But boobs will always be sexualised, in fact it doesn't have to be tried, they ARE sexual. That's not problematic in any way.

In many ways though it IS fair to equate conservative traditional muslims with christians. Islamic cultures had the misfortune of a sexual revolution, which in our cultures and societies happened despite the christian norms and values, not thanks to them (unless of course in the sense that it was partly triggered in reaction to that 'old fashioned' restricting christian mindset)

Supposedly it represents piety and modesty. They certainly have succeeded in not tempting this infidel. Women in burkas look like ghosts at night and I get slightly agitated seeing them walk around during the hotter summer months.

I dont really think what a woman wears has any bearing on whether or not she becomes a victim of sexual assault though

And I don't think that's why women are forced to wear burquas. It's just a means of total patriarchal control
