Untidy places you have stayed at when on holiday

Back in 1993 i went with my parents overseas to visit Hawaii and parts of California.
Anyway we got to Saint Louis Obisbo and their weird looking roadhouse that was a motel as well.
We arrived late as we didn't know what the cut off time was they stopped arrivals.
    Late was 5 minutes.
They gave us the smellist room that had not been cleaned.
Somebody had shat on the bed that wasn't made
Somebody else had spewed on the ground

Things were pissed on and it just stunk bad.

Anyway we demanded that the cleaners do their job and that the staff stopped whinging about late overseas arrivals.
We had dinner at their diner which the food was ok.

When I was 19 I went to Canada with some friends for legal drinking. The room was fine when we got there, but it was sure as hell untidy when we left.

I don't know what Pat consumed that night, but he left a massive neon orange puddle of puke on the floor. We just threw the blanket over it and got the hell out of there.

I'm surprised that happened in San Luis Obispo. There are about a hundred other places in California where I'd expect that but SLO is not one of them. I played some baseball tournaments there when I was younger and we stayed at hotels, never had a problem. Guess it could be the hotel vs motel difference.

          It happened to us.
We were travelling from los angeles to san fransico and had booked an overnight stay at SLO roadhouse diner motel.
The experience they gave us was rude and lazy.

I stood in all kinds of places. From luxury hotels, apartment like homes, to very remote places in second or third world countries with only the very basic necessities. Some were clean but bug infested being in the middle of a rainforest or jungle-like environment. Infested with mosquitoes, roaches, ants, and other bugs that i had no clue what they were. In some there were a few frogs and geckos roaming around my place. I would say the worse i remember was in downtown Egypt. Not because of bugs or because it was dirty (i believe it was dirty too) but because of the staff that worked there. I had my food stolen a few times, almost missed my flight because of them, and barely got my laundry on time to pack up.

Tropical Breeze frogs and geckos seem ok tolerable but roaches and other bugs in a place where you have to live is so disgusting : (

niftypebble21, i was kinda use to it. Living in New York i encountered plenty of roaches and mice. Luckily never a rat in my place. Same with Florida. Plenty of cockroaches, ants, geckos, and other bugs.

In college my boyfriend and I used to get hotel rooms from time to time, just to have some time to ourselves, drink a little, hook up, and watch some cable tv, but we had no money, so we would stay in these seedy-ass places, wherever was cheapest, really. I recall one place that we stayed in where the curmudgeonly front desk woman assumed I was a prostitute. I remember that she was older woman, hair dyed blonde and had that thick black eye liner drawn in thick lines on her lower eye lids--you know the type.

She gave us the key to a room and it had clearly not been cleaned since the last person stayed--or at least not cleaned well. The floor had hair all over it, there were little flecks of blood (or some other read liquid) in the bathroom sink. The tub had some weird pink slime circling the drain. I sat down on the bed-which had one of those think cheap comforters and a pink blanket underneath, dotted with cigarette burns. The sheets were stained. I was 18 though, I didn't care. I pulled back the (greenish-heavily floral) curtains that draped across the door to our little patio, and I realized that the glass of the door was shattered, and that there was glass littered on the carpet behind the curtains and outside on the patio as well. There was this dude outside the door, and we made eye contact. I don't know who was more surprised to see who. The man just left, kind of slinked away in to the night.

And for some reason I was like, yeah, this place is fine for now.

Some junkie fell asleep in one of the beds there later that year, and burned half the place to the ground with a lit cigarette. Someone else bought it and now it's not so shady anymore--maybe like Holiday Inn quality.

It's weird, because now I'm somewhat particular about hotel rooms. I don't need anything fancy; I just want it to be clean. I can't handle dirty sheets, and I'm the type of person who brings my own pillowcase, lol.

Youfreeme I'd never heard of the word 'curmudgeonly' before it has an intriguing sound quality to it : )

Before that i had never been in anything that was so unkempt.
Still today the only mess on the ground is bits of kitty litter from my cat after he's used the litter boxes to do his business.
Or my own clothes that need to be washed.
When we stayed in Aniheim which is where DisneyLand is we were in a Remanda inn

I find it hard to believe that someone checking into a room would find a turd on the bed and vomit all over the ground. Especially when you said you were checking in late. The room would have been cleaned well before then.

The most untidy place I've stayed at, back in my mid 20s, was at a very affordable 1 bedroom apartment when I was a BFA student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond VA, USA. When I moved in I found mouldy food left in the cupboards : ( and then later I found that the main reason the apartment was so affordable was because my apartment & the entire 3 storey apartment building was old and very neglected lots of damp water damage all over the place and then within the first day of moving in I discovered so many roaches in my apartment and all over the hallways of the building : ( I remember having to pay for alot of roach traps to try to get rid of all the roaches over the course of 1 year that I had to endure living there?

You need to remember i'm talking about hotel rooms you have stayed at that weren't cleaned up before you unpacked your stuff.

I remember going for an job interview to do with motel rooms and having to clean up after people had left for the day.

I was told that they do get the odd drunk that they have to house overnight because of strict rules at home.
There are the odd piles of spew, shit and piss everywhere because people don't give a rats about how they treat other things.

People are so selfish that they don't bother to clean up after themselves.

Last week I walked into a Burger King to pick up some food for a friend as a favor.

I was the only customer there. With Covid laws in place, fast food joints only do take-out orders, so you can't eat in the dining room. There were only 2-3 cars in the drive thru, so they weren't too busy. But it took them several moments to realize I was standing at the front waiting for them before they came to me. Looking from the front counter into the kitchen, it was cluttered with stale burger toppings and french fries which nobody working there bothered to sweep up. Normally I would sympathize with fast food workers working under immense stress, bad management, and low pay; I myself used to be one of them. But what I saw back there was virtually unacceptable. Not only was the floor a complete mess, but there was no cleanliness on the countertops at all. Even you could see that they pushed some of the old french fries that were sitting on the counter, back into the warming tray, soon to be packaged for customer orders. I texted my friend saying I couldn't get him any food from this Burger King because of how dirty it was.
