Me too! Can't wait haha. I was so eager for more starfighter stuff, but didn't thought I could expect such a thing. Certainly not in a few fucking months already! :-D

You already have the console, right?

Another thing about this game is that its apparently gonna be cross play, which means ps4 and xbone players can play together. Still uncommon.

At first instance I preferred 3rd person (or vehicle to be exactly :P ) and big multiplayer games instead of 5 vs 5, but I'm getting used to the idea already :-D I know you always prefered cockpit view though, and unlike starfighter assault this game is made for that!

October Which is near the release of the ps5, which means more people are gonna sell their ps4 I don't think a second handed costs that much these days anyways! Esp if you watch out well for a good offer.
But... and I hope and expect not, maybe this game doesn't live up to its expectations at all and it's better to wait until there are some proper reviews :P

Last Star Wars game I enjoyed playing was Rogue Squadron for the N64. Haven't played any more recent ones than that.

I think I actually managed to miss that one! It was all about starfighting? Was there a battle of Hoth in there (snowy plains and the tow cable action :P ?)

On N64 I played 2 Star wars games: I had the pod racing game (called Episode 1 Racer at the time), and rented one that was probably Shadow of the Empire (just like @J. Ruth!). They actually were my first Star wars games ever, as I never had a (super)nintendo or a playstation. I think around the same time Jedi Knight - Dark forces 2 or Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast came out, loved that so much at that time. Really digged it that you could walk around in a Star wars setting playing such an adventure

I heard of it, but never got it. I think one reason why I didn't bother later on (when I got a bigger interest in Star wars games) is because it didn't age well, and I already thought games like Shadow were kind of average looking at best at time of release. Plus new SWgames were released, although non focussed around starfighting anymore! It sounds like this Squadrons game is in the same line of that old Rogue Squadron.

Definitely not the best race game out there, but I digged it also because of the setting of course Buying parts of Watto, having a hangar on Tatooine, the Boonta eve race Always had second thoughts about the race on Hoth though: wasn't that an inhabited planet, later used for that exact reason by the rebels to have a secret base..? But ok. Plus it was ridicilously fast haha

Can one pilot a Star Destroyer or Rebel Crusier?

Pete's Draggun n Nope, only fighters like interceptors, tie fighters, A wings and X wings, and bombers and U wings. You have to destroy Star destroyers or Rebel cruisers as a team of 5 (a squadron :P ) in online mode. 5 against 5 real players.
You plan your attack on a star destroyer or rebel cruiser though, and in between games you can upgrade your starfighter in the hangar of a star destroyer or Mon calamari cruiser (without actually walking around yourself unfortunately, its point and click there. But still: you're on one there :P )

During online missions you can change fighters or save your ass by going back to the hangar of a star destroyer or mon calamari cruiser

I actually did remember liking Rogue Squadron. I've always had a liking space shooter games. I definitely remember renting it over a couple of weekends. I actually regret that I never bought it at the time, as it was one of the better Star Wars games I remember.

Of course in those days I was bigger into video games and the Star Wars franchise than I am today.
