Turns out that the new parents invite folk over and then "reveal" the gender of their baby. So I guess that if you invited then you gotta take along two presents ... one for a girl and one for a boy just in case

Back in my day when your baby first saw the light of day you checked to see that he/she had all the necessary appendages etc. You then got on a telephone and broke the news to family and friends before getting seriously drunk.
