    My first movie crush...

I know this subject has been talked about before, but I think my life adds a whole new twist to it.

First off (as I've written about) I was a member of a religious cult for a year. I finally got up the courage to leave, and I'd been brainwashed into believing that all the world had to offer was sin and a life in hell if I did not listen to the "wise" words of the Bible.

One week after I left the Unification Church (Moonies), I was passing by a movie house and Flashdance was the main attraction.

I looked at the girl in the poster, and she seemed pretty and innocent to me. Also, I'd heard the Flashdance theme song on the radio many times, and I loved the idea of making your creative passions happen.

End of story, I ended up seeing the movie many times, and I was totally in love with Jennifer Beals. I did research, and turns out she was far from the simple minded character they tried to portray her as in the movie. She was college educated, and really only did the movie as a fluke.

This just made me love her more. Sad to say, Flashdance is mostly what she is remembered for. But I don't give a damn. The lady is smart, talented, and still looks stunning in 2021. If I was not celibate, I'd hit that big time (if she would let me).

I can see why you had/have a crush on her. I am not familiar with the movie but I've heard those songs, well the choruses at least.

Audiogen Most people didn't get that it was just an extended music video - not an actual movie. Don't know how I forgot about this one!

No dog, it was a movie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashdance

Maybe it was kind like an extended music video in a lot of ways, but it was an actual theatrical release.

Flashdance is a 1983 American romantic drama film directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Jennifer Beals as a passionate young dancer who aspires to become a professional ballerina (Alex), alongside Michael Nouri playing her elder suitor and the owner of the steel mill where she works by day in Pittsburgh.

I can totally get why you would have a crush on her. And I'm terribly sorry you got involved in moonies cult (my spell check changed moonies to boobies at first etc wtf is wrong with my tablet? Lol). At least the moonies taught you something valuable that cults prey on people like that and you can of course pass that message onto others. Every Religion starts off as a cult though.

Now that's a cult I'd drink the kool aid for.

OP1 So was Pink Floyd's The Wall. Most critics (including Roger Ebert) hated Flashdance with a passion. In fact, everyone was astonished when it became a big success. Girls were even running around wearing Flashdance sweatshirts (one shoulder totally exposed) just like Jennifer wore in the movie.

Also, Jennifer fessed up that she did not do most of the dancing in the flick. In fact, there were 4 different dancers pretending to be her. Her confession did not make the movie industry respect her. She didn't care. She simply went back to Yale and earned her degree. Go Jennifer! That kind of honesty is totally rare in Hollywood. But they punished her for it. She never was offered any decent movie parts after that. If she'd just kept her mouth shut, she would have been a major star. But that was not her style :-)

Matthew Mussolini Now calm down, Matt. She's way too old for you... haha. She was always honest about her mixed race heritage (another reason I adored her). She was just an honest person about everything - something which is totally rare in Hollyweird :-)

That was actually interesting because I consider Mussolini Mars, God of war, and on your thread, Writers Panic mentioned the month of March coming from Mars, and today I discovered earth shattering things about Celine Martin. Celine means "Moon" and Martin comes from "Mars".

So, what all does it mean? Well, for the average Joe, not a damn thing.

                          Still, I dig it!
