    Treefort meta

I have posted on forums forever, and several of you have too. Some of us have known each other for years-over a decade for a lot of us.

Many pretend to hate it here and love to complain about each other and this place-but we all stay, or come back, for years. Why?

What ties us all together? What do we all have in common (and a lot of us are very different from one another) that:

    a. Draws us to forums
    b. Draws us to Treefort

    a) I can only speak for myself on this one, I like the format of forums, it allows for instant message type communication as well as more involved discussions and blogs. The music and video share capabilities are also a big appeal to me. On my time at a particular forum which many of us are familiar with, people were often willing to exchange or gift drugs, so that was a bonus. The popular social media apps that I'm aware of rely solely on instant message type communication and uploading media (videos/pics) feels more contrived, like it has to be of a certain kind or an attempt to garner likes.

    b) Probably relative familiarity yet some anonymity and comfort with each other and being able to say mostly anything we want. I don't understand what is enjoyable about constant complaining.

I'm not really sure why I like it, but at least part of it is due to me living in a place stuck in the 1950s. My friends are all spread out and there is literally no one living here, in rural Kentucky, that I can really talk to. I mean, I'm not xenophobic or a fundamentalist and that's about 90% of the people around here.

I stumbled on HF by accident, Googling hippy clothing. Y'all seemed weird enough, so I stayed.

I just believe in the Force and think it all has a purpose. Plus none of you ever care what I say. I can be myself here. In person I just mimick a sensible, responsible person. Few know the real me, or want to.

I'm sowing my seeds, I know it. Raising vibrations.

Anything identity enhancing where we pass the time or escape from some aspect of our life is naturally going to be addictive. Where we can feel like our words and our lives are important and our opinion actually matters due to the attention given. The more deeply rooted our identity on a forum the more attached. People appear very different but to me they are pretty much the same. On every forum or social media site they are saying the same thing in a zillion different ways; "Hey everyone, look at me, i exist." ??

As for me, i just come for the free muffins and donuts. And i don't want to make Glen cry.

HF/TF are the only forums I've ever posted on.. I liked hipforums because there were people there I could connect with, who I felt like I could be friends with in real life, who enjoyed discussing the same things I do...mixed with people I had nothing in common with haha. I always liked the weird blend of people.

And I think it's really cool some of us have known each other 10+ years.

I prefer this format to something like reddit where threads never really stay alive longer than 2 days and it's impossible to get to know anyone because there are millions of users

Interesting haha! I basically found HF the same way. I play stoner/doom, some of which has style in music and clothing in 60s/70s style.

I believe I was looking for hip clothing to wear to perform in, to wear as an expression of my psyche, and for my home accessories.

I recall I found HF because I was interested in discussing music in such a community ( Amerijuanican also a lot of stoner/fuzz/retro rock and of course the original 60s and 70s stuff mainly psych, space and folk rock) ). What I really liked about HF (first decade I posted there anyway) was that there were not only people to connect with, but also always people with very different opinions and insights. I didn't came there for political convos, but I got into it there anyway and loved it. Several other subjects as well, like religion, mythology, fantasy etc. etc. It used to be superb for that. I guess it just seized to be so multifaceted when smartphones became a thing and pretty much no younger folks joined any longer.
I stayed for the people I grew fond of. I just became very attached to the place because of a few people

I am only on this forum to stay in touch and converse with the people I grew fond of. Its pretty lame to see people think in bubbles and refuse to debate normally with eachother anymore, seemingly merely because they're 'the other side' and we all know how the other side thinks and why they argue like that...
People seem to rarely engage in political convos just for trying to understand eachother. On a good forum you can ignore the polarising idiots that can only antagonize or talk in hyperbole and charged sentences. On HF and here it has become all you got, it either becomes an echo chamber or a hissyfit...

Also, kind of got into Twitch lately, but that kind of needs your full attention. Live chatting so you can't just go back and read a post
Where's something like treefort, you can just read a bit here and there, ad breaks, waiting at the checkout, in the elevator etc

                            So there's that also
