    Life Lessons from Treefort People

What are the most important life lessons you've learned thus far in your journey on this Earth? They can be hard earned, learned vicariously, and everything in between

Share your lessons and life advice so that we may learn from you =)

I think one of the most important lessons I have learned in life is that the absolute best thing you can do for yourself is to cultivate a daily practice of self compassion and self acceptance. Positive growth stems naturally from this place.

Also, taking time to ground yourself in the present moment every day, in whatever way works best for you.

And lean into the pain. Resistance is truly futile haha. Leaning into it is and accepting it is when the healing starts.

      1. Using phone in the evening is not worth it.

      2. Life focused on what you can give to others rather than get from them (either compliments, money, gifts, assistance) seems to result in a life where you feel you have/get more.

      3. Most people are good.

      4. Saying sorry is actually a lot less embarrassing than it feels like it's going to be, and if often a relief from emotional discomfort.

Absolutely to number 4! Really any situation where you're able to put your own ego aside for the sake of understanding can be so freeing

      #4
You don't have to react to things immediately. I've been learning a lot about impulses, and our first reaction is usually an impulsive one, but taking time to think about something before immediately responding has helped me navigate situations that were difficult. If other people are impatient, that really shows their immaturity, they clearly don't have the ability to plan for minor inconveniences of their day, which is not your problem. Anxious at the cashier when putting your money back in your wallet? There's no law that says you have to get the fuck out after 10 seconds, you can take as long as you want. That's how a lot of salespeople operate, the pressure they put on you is to get you to panic and buy whatever they're selling. When we do things under duress we're not making the right decision. Even if it's "embarrassing" to take your time, just do it. It's your life

Agree, this is a really good one. I can be a pretty reactive person and that's something I've been working on lately too

Main thing I always say is never accept promotion ! I have never been the boss of anyone ever in my work life, If you are responsible for what others do then you are taking on their job Think about this ? I answer for no one but myself and that works

When i first read the title i thought it was life lessons you've learned from the people on this site. Anyways, you can still be very rich even if you have nothing to show for it.

            Not in order of importance:

1: If you don't live life deliberately, life will make the most important choices for you.

2: There's no sense in being hostile to subjective tastes like music/movies/whatever you don't like. Some stuff just isn't for me. I know it seems obvious, but I spent a lot of my youth with a lot more hostility than was reasonable to stuff I wasn't interested in. There's no point... And I actually think it makes me more likeable when I'm not calling your favorite band Cucks. Though Raging Cucks isn't a bad band name.

3: Success is the ability to adapt. Life will throw everything at you, and it's not the strongest or the smartest who make it. Just people willing to keep at it. Life is rebuilding between storms.

4: Most people are good. Jessica said this already but I didn't believe this until my 30's.

5: Choose your battles. I find a lot of people will choose really petty hills to die over at work, but then they'll give in to negotiation over the important things. I think they ran out of steam arguing which shade of beige to make the logo, and now we inherented a whole person's worth of extra work or something.

These are good. And number 4, neither did I.

            1. Give up all your belongings and follow Jesus. The Lord will provide.
            2. Keep a can opener. The dead are going to rise from their graves, and you will need lots of canned food.
            3. Don't grab an item you don't plan on purchasing; it hurts their feelings.
            4. S'mores. S'mores. S'mores.
            5. Do not try to hide your jaw of traitor.
            6. Do not make pretext this or that, for you are a fool who dare to thwart the revolution.
            7. BE OCD. Tiny mistakes can be your demise.

All these coincidences have been happening, and I really feel the universe is telling me to eat S'mores.

I don't believe in meaningful synchronicity because it never happens to me. If it were real it would happen to me. God would choose me. The Universal Mind would choose me. Even though I don't want it to and am not open to it. That's how I know it's for crazy people.

              So...

              8. Never be fanciful. Do not believe in anything unless it is published by people who dress dapper.

              9. Win. WIN. WIN!

I learned a neat little vicarious lesson from my brother recently about humbling yourself to build other people up.

I was in an autoparts store with him because he was going to do some work on my car, and the young guy at the register asked him if he knew how to do the thing he was going to do. Another employee piped up and was like, oh he's a regular, he already knows

And my brother asked the young guy if he could explain anyways just to make sure my brother had everything straight. So we stood there for 15 minutes while the guy explained this thing my brother already knew perfectly well how to do.

Afterwards my brother said it's a lesson he learned from a pastor he knew, and how the pastor would treat young guys in seminary. He always treated them as beings of knowledge from whom he could learn something, rather than acting as if he already knew everything.

I thought that was super sweet So many people get huffy and get in their ego when someone tries to tell them something they already know, but it isnt really about that. It's about treating everyone as if they are beings of value and knowledge
