  • I hate the 20s

We are barely 2 years into this new decade and it is really been a shit show. I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.

If anything good comes from this decade that people in the future will associate it with, I wonder what it will be.

Even before 2020 most of the rock/metal acts I would want to see where getting too old
As for the post 2000 mob, Bullet for My Valentine would be the only ones I'd get excited about seeing

As for regular music, 20,000 people standing around watching one DJ, that always gave me the shits, what is wrong with the kids nowadays

Most of my friends are still being douchey about being around crowds

I think the Covid thing is actually going to get worse over the next 18 months, and we are headed into summer here, so I think I might stop being a night owl and spend my days at the beach

As for the world in general, there are just way too many people, we are screwed no matter what we do

I'm not sure yet what culturally/artistically defines the 20s so far. Also not for me personally (have not really been checking out new stuff).

Commercial Space Travel is probably the highlight of the decade so far and it's too bad it got overshadowed by people terrorizing the streets. But I do think space travel will progress throughout the decade and is something people in future decades from now will associate with the 20's.

I think it's really interesting that at pretty much the beginning of the decade things really started going downhill

I think life is how you choose to view it. There are lots of "shit" things, but there always has been. And we're only talking about a Western perspective? I think people in Syria probably think things have been shit for a while.

Personally life seems as wonderful and terrible as it ever did. Humans are being as incredible and wonderful and as stupid as they've ever been.

I've said this before when we've discussed the way people perceive the potential for some kind of change on NYE, but I just think it's an illusion mostly. It's all a chain of events, and that chain of events isn't really affected by the name we give the date except where we choose it to be.

I hope that in the long run Covid triggers changes in the way we run society that means when we look back in fifty years time, we see the early 20s as being the birth of those things.

              I concur.

Even though I don't really dig my life like I used to, I can't really blame it on the decade's (or last 2 years) peculiars

Although I agree with commercial space travel being a highlight, I'm also annoyed whenever i see Bezos taking rich peeps to space. That also overshadows that highlight a bit for me.. :P
Does that profit even go into investments in further space travel stuff??

Also, not being deliberately obtuse here i swear: what are you exactly referring to with people terrorizing the streets?

I think we're on the brink of a major societal shift, and shifting winds and changes tend to be uncomfortable and painful. But ultimately will deliver us all somewhere better

              Maybe

Like covid hit reset and took everyone ...no ,that's definitely overly optimistic...took *some* people off autopilot.

Elon Musk's company SpaceX was the first. I believe both companies have several future planned launches.

Yes, and also I have slightly more faith in how Musk will spend the profits. You? Just having more of the same planned sounds like its just making money off of rich people

You didn't clarify what you ment with people terrorizing the streets over there? Protests? Hooligans? Lockdowns? Alec Baldwin? :P

Yes, the riots. Hooligans is a synonym that works splendidly. Lol

I have more faith in Musk as well. I'm viewing the OP as if someone in a few decades from now is looking back at the achievement(s) so the status of the people going at the moment doesn't really bother me. I think it's likely bound to become more affordable over time rather than an Elysium type deal, where the wealthy fly off and build a space station to segregate from Earth.

Yes that’s exactly what I was referring to in the opening post; how future people will see achievements of the ‘20s. I can see how commercial space travel and tourism will be a crowning achievement of this decade in the future.

We look back at decades like the ‘50s as the birth of rock ‘n roll, the ‘60s as muscle cars and counterculture, the ‘90s as the birth of the internet, and more.

But perhaps it won’t be much positives at all and they’ll look back at this time as specifically a dark age. Similar to the way we view the 1930s and the Great Depression. (Although television was invented and film was no longer silent, so those are positives that came from the ‘30s).

All depends on what happens, and I like to think the possibilities are limitless.

                    I'm not impressed, though.

                      Same...
There were much better ways to bring about Change, than what we've witnessed the last two years.

I don't think so, at the moment it's still like a 1 in 20 chance of getting vapourized at least for a few minutes in not quite exactly space

Advertisement Is no one interested to tour space anymore? It hasn’t been long since SpaceX launched four amateur astronauts on the Inspiration4 mission where they got to enjoy a three-day trip around the Earth’s orbit. But it seems like now all the future trips to space might be put on halt as the most recent […]
