    Learn something new each day

In this thread, share something new you learned today.

Today I learned that a “Fudgery” is a place that makes fudge.

    Your turn

Finally a reasonable place to post this pic. Happened on Friday, but the impact has reshaped my life since then.

*It’s because chlorophyll can get trapped inside of certain types of oranges that share genetics with Pomelo and other similar fruits.*

Looks like an unripe orange to me

I thought it was very normal for oranges to be greenish. They even paint them orange because the average consumer thinks they're only good when really orange :P

        What the fuck though

Another thing I do with orange peel is grind it up really fine to make orange sauces with it

Granted red #2 is used in cakes and icing and what notand is considered safe for human consumption but I try to avoid food coloring and I don't want it in my fucking orange chicken damnit

If people could just learn to love imperfect things we wouldn't have this issue and everyone would be happy eating green oranges

Agreed. But hey, at least you learned today that they're often artificially coloured

i just learned all this too....kind of dissapointed....i read you can tell the dyed ones because the white flesh under the peel will also be orange-orangish

i already knew a fudgery was the fudge maker....one of the only places you can use the term fudge packer without being a dink....i wonder if gay fudge packers dont love the term at work....''jimmy you and the other fudge packers head down to shipping''

Today I learned the word Robot comes from the ancient Slavic word Robata, which means forced labor, servitude, drudgery.

In a way it makes sense. Robots are like slaves to humans, but they lack life and soul, unlike real slaves.

Wow, what's ironic about that is that the word slave in turn is based on the ethnic term Slav(ic) :-D

Not to step on toes but..

In fact, the most popular version sees “Slavs” as deriving from slovo, “word,” (meaning “people who can speak our way”). There are also historians who tie the etymology of “Slavs” to the ancient Indo-European word, slauos, which meant, “people.”17 July 2017

I only looked it up because the Mongolian invasion of eastern Europe pretty much surged the Slav culture from the Scythian/Mongol relationship, so I knew it didn't have anything to do with slavery.

                  Also they're pronounced totally different.

                  It's Slarrvic. Not slavic.
                  Nobody was ever a slarrve

                  Unless you a Yugoslavian

Interestingly enough, the Vikings are to be considered Slavic, especially the Danes where Slavic culture migrated out from the forests or Carpathia to the northern realms of Denmark.

This is why the Danes are considered to be "dark" Vikings as opposed to their Nordic brethren of Norway and Sweden.

A Slavic man was generally quite tall and strong and said to have been a good person, hard working. Their features were not pale nor blonde.

There are many eastern European countries that aren't considered to be Slavic, only during periods of history when the Rus had control of lands were they considered to be Slavic.

Poland is the more diverse Slavic country, as a popular trading country in the middle ages, we can attribute Poland's good looking women to the fact that Nords, Aryans, Slavs, Mediterraneans and Asian cultures spent so much time together in that country.

Even Hitler was convinced that Poland had its share of untainted genes and declared that 10% of the Polish population was in fact, Aryan.

Now there's like 3 distinct Poles in Poland. White Poles, Slav Poles and Jew Poles.

It's theorized that T-Rex had visual acuity up to 13 times greater than humans, which is a few times greater than a hawk, and an anomaly among large Carnivorous Dinosaurs.
