Dick was a fairly common name for a man in much of the 20th century and before. Dick was a short nickname for Richard. But at some point, Dick became synonymous with Penis, and mothers stopped naming their baby boys Dick. I'm not sure at what point that happened, but it was certainly before my generation. I haven't met a single guy named Dick that wasn't a boomer or older. My 5th grade teacher's first name was Dick. And I had a 2nd uncle named Dick, who died of a heart attack while skiing. Names are more common in different generations than others. Some names lose popularity, then they make a return in newer generations. But I don't think Dick will ever make a return.
Makes me wonder if Karen will be forever synonymous with what the meme has become, and go down in history with Dick. Or if the meme will die out and more baby girls will be named Karen once again.
