What do you love about hate?

On the ride home from work I started thinking about Meliai and Undies both saying they had a love-hate relationship with everything and my thought process went:

No that's nonsense, I bet there are things you hate that you don't love at all, like being stabbed in the eye.

And I bet there are things you love that you don't ever hate.

Hm maybe not because I can imagine reason to have a love-hate relationship with love, and so by default you have a love-hate relationship with everything you love.

So can you have a love-hate relationship with hate? It would mean you have to partly or sometimes love hate.

And then I was at this question, and curious how people would answer.

So, what do you love about hate?

I Love The Fact That If The Situation Calls For It

    I Am Capable Of Hate.

Unfortunatly, There Are Some Jerks In Society That Deserve
To Have Hate Bestowed Upon Them....

Can be transcendent into great poetry, music, and movie entertainment. Or even artwork.

Can inspire greater growth, compassion, empathy, and understanding.

I love watching people being jealous of how good some people have it.
        Haters get proven wrong

So, what do you love about hate?
Fer 25+ years, the hate emotion made me exceptionally good and proficient at a job that I loved to do.

Would be some pretty weak ass love if it couldn't encompass and love hate, I suppose

I feel like I had said "most everything". If not, it was implied in my head.

I don't think I actually "hate" anything, I don't have time or energy for all that. If my feelings for something trend toward negative, I usually just toss it in the apathy pile. This includes getting stabbed in the eye, if it had happened to me then maybe I would grow to hate it, but at this point my worst eye injuries have not gone past the point of annoying inconvenience, so I haven't bothered to form strong feelings about it.

I think what I was referring to was how, with anything I do have strong feelings about, there are things about it that I love and things about it that I really don't love. So I guess a better answer might be that I have a love/hate relationship with everything that's actually important to me.

To answer the general question on what I love about hate, I can think of a few things that may have various levels of pertinence to me, but could serve as general answers to the question. For one thing, it can be a good motivator. If you hate something about your life, I can't think of a better source of motivation to change that thing. Also, there's a certain amount of enjoyment that can come from negative emotions. For one thing, it gives you that contrast so that you can better appreciate the things that you don't hate. Beyond that, there's actually some enjoyment that comes directly from the negative emotions. Like, there's a reason sad movies and horror movies are so popular. Because people enjoy feeling bad, at least in a controlled environment. And no, I don't really have a guess as to why that is.

Don't diss being stabbed in the eye if you have not tried it yet. It's like I picture eating Taco Bell

Although hate can be awesome, having a love hate relationship with something does not mean you love hate... It means you see a downside of, or thoroughly dislikable aspect in, that thing you happen to love (at times) as well.

There's a few people it comforts me to think negatively of. Sometimes I'll think of them before I go to bed at night. Just a few pieces of work. My sister and her husband, my ex friends...

no, having a love/hate relationship with something doesn't mean that. but having a love/hate relationship with everything does, assuming hate is a thing.

How is the love hate relationship different when it is something and not everything? The hate aspect is still about the same thing one happens to also love in a way , right?
