  • I wanna get back to my city by the eBay ee-yayyyy, whoa ooh oh, whoa woe

Since I'm unemployed and the jackwagon state case workers who keep trading my file around are basically useless, I'm taking time to get rid of crap I have collected for no good reason over the years. I have vacuum tubes, model kits, a complete My Little Pony original series figurine collection, trading cards and other assorted junk.

While I have sold some stuff, I find that buying is very different on eBay these days. My biggest grip is the automatic bidding system.

I spotted a uranium glass piece that I liked, it was only going for $10, so I raised it to $15. But that's not what happened. Instead my bid showed up as a buck and a half higher than the latest bid. That's not what I wanted. If I have the balls to raise a bid by 50%, I'm doing it now, not a few shekels at a time over the next 4 hours.

So now any other bidder below $15, myself included, is wasting their time if they don't top my bid, only they can't see it, so they don't know this.

I've been going to auctions since I was a kid, and I have never seen such a fucked up way to do things. The only way to realistically buy from eBay it seems is to use the "Buy it Now" option for whatever price they show. Which means it's just plain retail. Otherwise, you're just spinning your wheels.

Try the OfferUp app. I don't have a ton of experience with it but I remember it being fairly easy to use and it was recommended to me by a professional that also sold stuff at auctions.

Downside is I think you can only buy/sell locally.

I've tapped into all the local selling I want. Too many want to come to my house, of all things. It means I spend more time at the UPS store (far better and faster service than the USPS), but I planned to anyway. The worst shipping I had to do was an antique tube FM stereo receiver. It depleted my bubble-wrap supply, so I'm going dumpster diving for more on Sunday.

I still think we should set something up here so we can sell our loose crap to each other. Most of the hippies I have ever known collected stuff on a whim and are ready for more, but need to shed some first.

Oddly enough, this auto-bidding nonsense has me interested in day trading again. But I don't think I'm greedy enough to make it work.

That had been mentioned when we were working on the Content Creators App. I liked the idea but I wanted to hold off integrating something like that into the app because it probably would require database storage upgrade.

I don't think there is enough people here to really make it worthwhile.

I didn't mean that it should be attached via vB, that seems like a recipe for grief. Perhaps on another platform like Etsy, eBay or Freecycle!

As for people, sure it may be a little slow, but it's really about the actual crap we trade around, buy and sell. On some other platform it could drive more people to the site.

We could put sale items into a forum topic and link them to the platform where they are up for sale.
