boubindica glad you see this truth! Those with the power prefer us to fight each other than them. Make us feel like we can change society by voting in the other party. All such nonsense :-) left and right now are extensions of the same system, and it's the system that's the problem.

Wow! I’ve not heard someone actually say that. I’ve said the same. Couldn’t agree with you more Jessica! Left and right don’t even mean the same things used to mean. They’re just outdated labels used to create deep divisions amongst the population.

I’m with you there Jessica. I normally don’t like commercially popular music, but I really like some of her stuff.

You’re lucky it wasn’t me. Years ago, I thought I was giving my then boyfriend a lot of pleasure attempting the same but I didn’t know wtf I was doing, and what I thought were moans of ecstasy, were in fact moans of agony.

    Well, he shoulda said… :/

I literally NEVER wink as part of my facial body language.

When I use ";-)" on here it just stands for a different kind of smile. A more exaggerated "silly" smile.

    Same with :-P or ;-P
I just felt I had to get this of my chest. It's like I've been lying to you all this time. I feel better now. Total weight off my conscience.

Individuals don't need to align themselves with a tribe. But yeah, feeling part of a group feels good? I guess. And I can acknowledge that I see some people as being more "my people".. but I'm questioning right now if that is correct, actually.
Your post has made me rethink the tribalism in my own thoughts and life. Hm. I'll get back to you on this one :-)
Those are political philosophies first and foremost, so they are definitely useful labels. I think tribalism develops around them because outside of political theorists, people don't have the time and/or mind to be able to sift through centuries of these ideas. Also, 'the party' tends to boil the ideas down to neatly packaged talking points.

You're right, it's definitely difficult. But I tend to think it's the right way.
I don't think it's a choice between tribalism or loneliness (and I know you probably aren't saying that either :-) ). Or if the choices are close to that, they shouldn't be. It'd be good if we could learn that disagreement can also still be a positive interaction.

I'm looking forward to your free will thread.

I dont think it is a matter of being correct, I think it is just human nature to tend towards tribalism. We are social animals, we are geared towards mirroring and the social reward that comes from positive interaction. It is lonely without a tribe and humans aren't really evolved to function well in loneliness

I'm going to start my free will thread soon haha, I want to compile all my thoughts on the subject first. So I'll go into more depth in that thread, but I'll just say now that I think it can be difficult for anyone to break out of collective group think and think as an individual. It requires a certain level of introspection that isn't really based on thinking but more the clarity that comes with being able to sit in the silence between thoughts and to see things for exactly how they are, rather than seeing things through the lens of various judgments that are formulated from everything we have ever been taught or have learned from others or have picked up from simply being immersed in the same collective cultural experience as everyone around us.

If I ever met her, though, I would be ruined. I would be so ashamed of myself. I don't know if I'd ever be able to hold another cohesive thought.

My biggest secret that embarrasses me the most: I'll never get over my admiration for K. Stewart. I really just am enamored with her, and I'll tell any love interest this up front and hope they find it amusing, I guess.

I think she's a good actress, though admittedly alpha Male-type movies are more my thing. But mostly I just dig HER. I could watch her all day. The sound of her voice, her gestures...I just think she's the cat's meow.

And I do see how preposterous and unfortunate for her it would be, realistically, if she had to deal with my immaturity, so...

But yeah, she possesses my most favored quality in a woman: defiance. Even though that's a catch 22 for my own personal benefit.

It's true. I'll never get over her.
