  • What's the best compliment you've received?

Have you ever received a compliment that stands out above all others?

    As for me
A friend once drunkenly (thats how I know he was sincere) told me I spit so much genius I spit it in my sleep. I like to recall this compliment whenever I'm feeling down on myself.

And one time a Jamaican guy told me I had the spirit of Jah in my eyes. There's a chance it was just a nice way of telling me I looked high as fuck, but I like to think he saw something deeper.

Also, I get "you seem really down to earth" fairly often which is mundane as far as compliments go but its one that always makes me feel good. I like that, being perceived as grounded and down to earth

What about y'all? You guys. You'se guys. Yinz

When I was young and spry, a girl once told me "You could get any girl".

I'm sort of paraphrasing but one of the guys I had to let go told me "You were my favorite manager" when he came to pick up his last check. That stood out because I was overlooked for that position for awhile.

I went to a festival with a few younger friends and I provided Ecstasy for us. I also brought Special K which I had plan to dose towards the end of the night, but I split from them for a bit because they wanted to see a rapper and I wanted to a see a Dj set and I'm unsure if I just dropped it along the way or it got jacked but I lost the Special K and that sent me spiraling into a bummer trip, so when I rendez-vu'd with my friends I explained the situation and one of them put his arm around me as we walked and explained how awesome it was that I came with them to the festival and that I helped make his night memorable.

it feels so awkward getting compliments. i think i tend to block it out. probably because people say something nice and i don't know how to react so i say something stupid like "your mom."

a couple of years ago a woman i'd just met said that she'd been impressed by my cycling control (coming down the last very steep part of the hill on the way into the village)

a birthday card two years ago with an old black and white photo of a woman with some pumpkins in a garden and the friend wrote inside "she reminds me of you - sexy and earthy?" (the question mark was a little odd, but this is a guy who doesn't say nice things like this much)

several people have said that i am fair, unbiased and honest, which are qualities i admire in others and i'm pleased if i am.

            "You're wise for your years."
            "You're really smart."
            "I like your eyes."
            "I like your hair."

Funny thing is I'm slightly self-conscious, so I take compliments badly...like it embarrasses me.

My ex wife told me she wished I wasn't so damn smart sometimes...not sure how to take that!

The best compliment i recall was so because of the person it came from, not the actual content of the comment

Getting embarrassed by compliments.. Not uncommon. I do, too. But! I think I'm learning to take them more graciously. It's weird, isn't it.. I mean what is behind the embarrassment? We feel we shouldn't agree, because it's big headed to think good things about ourselves? I try and remember how it is to be the compliment giver. When we compliment someone else we KNOW that there's nothing for THEM to feel embarrassed about.. So next time you feel embarrassed by a compliment focus on the fact you're the only one it makes awkward and even if it still makes you feel awkward just say "thank you", politely, as if it doesn't. In time you actually feel less embarrassed in the first place.

My last compliment? Hmmm! Do calendars go back that far? Outside of a couple former coworkers and prior customers, I can't remember the last one I got.

I love getting them here. Those couple of people know who they are.

                      Ok...on with the countdown! ?

i'm not embarrassed by compliments, but i'm a little embarrassed by my cluelessness on how to react to them.

i actually think i might be a little big headed; i almost always agree when i'm complimented. but what then? "i know" is a completely douchey reaction. "thanks" is reasonable, but seems kind of like i'm blowing them off. i just don't know how you're supposed to graciously accept a nice comment.

It's mostly tone. "thanks" can sound dismissive.. Or sincere. I'd say "thank you" rather than thanks. I'm distracted now by how weird the word "thank" looks. But yeah it's all tone of voice really. If you're NOT especially touched by a compliment, why fake it. If you are pleased, that should show.
