  • If We Met In Real Life

Recent forum events, and the cooperation it has inspired in us, got me to wondering: would we all get along in real life? I'd like to think so.

I think if I met any of you in real life it might be kind of awkward, at first at least. In a way getting to know people on Hip Forums was kind of like reading an interactive book. And like in a novel, I have a picture in my mind of what y'all look like, how you talk and sound and laugh, etc. Of course this is bound to be inaccurate, so meeting up at a coffee shop or something for the first time I'd realize I was sitting across from a total stranger. And that would feel weird.

I think a group setting, in a club or something, would be different. I imagine if a dozen or so of us got together, with a few drinks, we'd get to laughing pretty hard and would really get to know each other. Lolli and I have talked about going to the UK to visit babs and mally; I think that would be a blast. And when I retire I plan on travelling extensively. If I'm still in contact with any of the old HFers I wouldn't mind meeting up with some of you.

i tend to get along with most anyone that's not an asshole. although i am socially awkward, so they might not realize i'm getting along with them. but yeah, i think it would be cool after that weird adjustment period. and maybe after the women all made it clear that i should stop trying to flirt.

I think we'd probably all get along fine.

Rather than start another thread...I'm wondering if there is a place for notifications, mail, or anything like that. I had no idea dice (how do you call up a person's u/n) had quoted me. Where should I look?

Like Dice said down there, to check boxes to make things notify you.. but mine were all already checked.
at the very top of the screen, to the right, there should be "Notifications, messages, *your screen name*" ..and you should get red numbers there to show the notifications

When I was on AOL I spent most of my time in the Life - Marijuana Debate, one of their predefined chat rooms. Initially their chat rooms only held 30 users at a time, and MJ debate was very popular. AOL also had only 8 character user names, so I was JalpnoEnma for years before I became WritersPanic there. While I met several others in real life while I lived in Florida, and then later when I lived in New York, we never managed to pull off a big meet up.

So, I faked one. Using PowerPoint.

All of the images are web grabs. The only shot that's close to reality is the Pharm Sighting. He was a good friend and that pic looks exactly like him. But he died.

Go to profile>user settings>notifications and then scroll down to "general" and make sure the check boxes are selected for the stuff you want notifications for.

if you come to the UK, count me in! i absolutely assume, on some level, that i will meet many of you at some point.
but i've had the same thought.. like, how weird to suddenly be sitting with a real person and have to mentally attach them to this screen name i've been talking to for years!
that's why i like seeing videos of people, and the karaoke thread somewhere. the people i've seen in videos of any kind are more "real".

i like the idea of a vast world wide road trip where everyone who gets visited joins the journey and by the end we are a massive group of people all randomly stuck in Mongolia.
but that's not as likely as a few individual meetings.

We could do a "Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" type of thing. Of course, pants will not work so it would have to be something anyone could wear...a necklace or bracelet or something. Then whoever had that item at the time would have to post a picture of themselves wearing it. After that, they send it on to the next person.

Hmmm...I kinda like it too. The idea is, maybe we don't get to travel but the item travels for us. It was just kinda an off the wall idea.

A big meet up would be a lot of fun
but logistically would probably never happen.
But there are a few people I would like to meet one on one.
Its weird because I'm an introvert but I tend to do better in group settings unless its someone I really click with one on one.
So I can definitely see a group meet up being a big fun party
but one on one meetings being awkward haha
There are a few people I have in mind where I know it would click and not be awkward

i was going to suggest a condom, but that would exclude a couple people.

more importantly... are even the people who aren't biologically excluded going to want to take part in wearing the same condom
