  • Modified Mosquitos

The aim is to reduce insect-borne diseases but environmental groups warn of unforeseen consequences.

i'd like to think.. 'oh they must know what they're doing. they wouldn't do anything stupid.'
but i don't have that much faith in humans. this makes me feel apprehensive.

    what do you guys think?

The species of mosquito in question is an invasive species, so I don't see the harm. Anything we do, of course, runs the risk of unintended consequences but that's part of the price of progress. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and get better at this type of thing. I strongly believe that the future habitability of Earth, for humans at least, will depend on our being able to micro-manage ecosystems to undo much of the damage we have done over the past couple of centuries.

As a guy who lives in South Florida and has also had Dengue. This is not only a good idea, but we should make the rest of the worlds mosquitoes watch.

Mosquitoes kill over a million people a year, and sometimes 'environmentalist' means pseudo-intellectual who has never opened a god damned genetic book over the issue, but likes healing crystals, and they can go fuck themselves.

Since I've been spending much more time outdoors this summer I've been bitten heavily..
I I noticed that these mosquitoes are very very tiny..
I sometimes wonder if my fatigue is related to a zika virus or some shit..

Dice mentioning that these are invasive makes sense we should try and eradicate them.. But the fact they kill a million people.. Like I don't know. Do we need to worry about that? People wanting to get rid of a creature just because they cause us discomfort /illness.. Seems a bit warped. We kill so many millions of everything else..

Why take antibiotics when you get sick? You're killing millions of living things just to relieve discomfort and illness.

I guess different people have different priorities. In a really abstract sense, I think there are too many people, and mosquitoes and coronaviruses are doing what they should do by thinning the herd.

But I'm a human, so I'm on team human. Fuck mosquitoes.

good point about the antibiotics. although i'm not sure if i've ever taken them in my life. if i have, it was in childhood, pre memory. I wouldn't take them to relieve discomfort, I would take them if my life was in danger without them. Of course I have a desire to live.

I'm team nature : ) I don't find it an abstract thought. I see us behaving out of balance, and not respecting the balance that the world works on, and I fully support nature's methods of bringing things back into balance.

But I respect and understand your position.
