Dems Are Again Trying to Give Washington D.C. Statehood.

Guess it was only a matter of time before the Dems once again had a go at this. They have again voted on a bill to make Washington D.C. a state. Of course the reason for this has nothing to do with them wanting to help American citizens. The district is heavily Democratic so statehood would most likely give the Democrats another two senators and reduce the Republican majority. The Dems are hellbent on trying to make sure that the Republican Party don’t win another presidential election. And this bill is it is passed by the senate (which hopefully it will not) together with their migrant policy, would go a long way to make their dream of a one party state come true.
Thankfully the 80 million Republican supporters who voted against their candidate in the last election will not easily be pushed aside or silenced.

The only compromise I would make for that would be to unite the northern counties of California and southern counties of Oregon and make that a new state as well. It almost happened in 1941. The people of that area are sick of the champagne socialist from Sacremento and Salem.

That's the Dems mantra. A "district" should surely never become a state. Does anyone believe that if D.C. were as incorrigibly Republican as it is Democratic, Democrats would favor D.C. statehood, which would mean two more Republican senators until the last trumpet shall sound?

What's the Dems mantra? I hope you don't mean "no taxation without representation."

That dates back to the American Revolution.

There is no guarantee that DC will ALWAYS swing liberal. These things change, and in a few years it could become a republican dominated area-wonder if you would change your tune then? The greater good here is allowing ALL Americans to have equal representation in government. DC citizens still pay taxes, and they still have to sign up for the draft. They can die for their country--but they can't have their voices heard in Congress? What a ridiculous system.

DC has enough people to merit becoming a state--it wouldn't even have the smallest population.

But everyone there works for a political party for the most part or are lobbyists. If you want your voice heard, don’t live there. You have a voice and influence behind closed door anyways

Not everyone, Beach Ball Bitch I bet it's a relatively small percentage of the total population. DC is so small that a lot of politicians choose to live in nearby suburbs of Virginia or Maryland. Have you visited DC, by the way? After you leave the main tourist area, it quickly becomes a very different city. Lots of diversity and lots of poverty, too. It's kind of heartbreaking, because you can be in a tent city in a different part of the city and literally see the Washington Monument or Capitol building.

The residential part of DC should be given back to Maryland (if Maryland wants them, that is). The Constitution says only that the district for the seat of government can't be over 10 miles square.

yes, political parties try to cheat in their favor. and we consistently encourage them to do so, by picking one side or the other and then blatantly ignoring when our side cheats, while acting super appalled when the other side does the exact same thing.

Well hey on the plus side you can't register to vote without a physical address so that's just less Democratic voters to worry about

I'm going to say this. I'm glad i'm not living in America. It's for this very reason when the republicans don't want to let go of their recent election loss and literally take matters too far.
