Prison is Just For Show Now

Newscum releasing 76,000 inmates, 63,000 of which were violent felons, including 20,000 serving life sentences.

I miss the days when earthquakes and wildfires were my biggest concern living here

I wonder how many are in prison for drug related stuff and nothing more. I'd just go ahead and release them instead of the current plan, as long as there were no other factors involved in their arrests.

everything bagel Have you ever considered moving to Oregon?

What they wont tell you is many people become far worse criminally minded people in prison because the mentality there glorifies it.

In all fairness, according to the article, they're not automatically releasing violent felons, they're just giving them the opportunity of parole based on good behavior a bit earlier than they would have previously been afforded the opportunity for parole

I'm all for releasing non violent offenders though. Duce is right, our prison system takes non violent offenders and makes them violent. Our current system doesn't really make any logical sense in terms of non violent offenders.

I watched this documentary on different prison systems around the world a few years ago and Norway really stood out to me

We should be doing this. America's prison system only serves to reinforce a violent culture. It doesn't do anything to cut down on crime or to help parolees become functional members of society once released.

It actually does though. Prisons make money by being full, and there's not enough violent people to keep them full, so logically it's pretty much necessary for them to take people with minor problems and turn them into sources of income.

Why Oregon? Portland's district attorney and mayor kept releasing all the Summer of Love rioters as soon as they were arrested. Releasing prisoners and convicts is what the OP is complaining about in the first place.

Besides, our governor follows just about everything California does.
