New data collected from citizens of nine major players in the global climate change effort has revealed a number of telling facts about how committed the regular human being is to saving the planet.

I don't personally buy into all the theories about anthropomorphic climate impact, but I don't have to. Because I am completely against pollution, a far more realistic goal than all the quackery that has emerged since the 70s when we were headed into the next ice age, in 12 years. I have personally cleaned ponds and creeks all over the southeast and I have worked in factories and utility plants and have seen the impact of environmental laws in controlling discharged pollutants.

The fact is we are fuckloads cleaner now than we were in the 50s. However, in other parts of the world pollution continues and is rising well above America at its worst. I remember when it was normal to see occasional puffs of smoke from automobile exhaust pipes. I also remember when people smoked in grocery stores, church, restaurants, record stores, schools and roller derby.

These days I mostly pollute my lungs, brain and gullet. Click image for larger version

people want governments to solve it, but if governments did what they needed to, the same people would hate it and not re-elect them. we have to come up with a government system that isn't competitive. i don't believe it's going to happen. too many people only react to direct events, not the idea of events that might happen in the future.

Vanilla Gorilla have you ever checked out CNA news? (It’s an Asia focused news network based in Singapore)

It’s still plagued by the usual bullshit, but has a tad more “common sense” to it.

I just watched a segment that talked about single use plastics actually being a much bigger driver for “climate change” than coal - something that becomes doubly worse when the plastic is manufactured in a coal powered plant.

What I took away from it was:

            A) Since most single use plastics are by design meant to be discarded (not just things like plastic straws - but now more than ever - PPE such as masks and gloves), there’s almost no way to make sure it doesn’t end up end up in a landfill.

A2) I don’t have a solution to the landfill problem, but it’s a shame that so much space has to be used just to house plastic. And when I say “shame”, I don’t mean a moral “oh, think of what you’re doing to the environment” kind of shame - I simply mean it’s unfortunate that space has to be wasted to house garbage instead of perhaps building a more “green solution” in the same space - or at the very least, dedicate the space to virtually anything else than just housing garbage.

            B) Sure, coal is dirty. But it’s all some countries have. The only alternative for nations in Southeast Asia or even India would be to allow foreign investment from US/China-based companies that have the know-how to build cleaner plants. (I know China isn’t the first country people think of in terms of “green” production plants - but their reason for using coal isn’t a lack of funds to rebuild, it’s more along the lines that they’re so incredibly greedy they don’t even pretend to care about the environment)

B2) Coal, gas, whatever all serve consumers with a means to generate an income for themselves (cars, generators, agricultural equipment). Again, it’s dirty and it would be awesome if everyone could afford swap everything out and start fresh - but it simply isn’t possible.

            —————

To go back to my first point about the single use plastics, this is something that consumers themselves can control. Sure, paper straws tastes like shit (at least personally speaking) and it’s a pain in the ass when a take out place doesn’t provide a fork/knife (this just happened to me), but these are things that people can control themselves.

To end this rant - an incredibly honest chart that was shown on CNA.

Yeah, but then I'd get in a political argument with others as you are more likely to see stuff like that on either business type news or centre right news. Most of Asia is pretty conservative, thus so is their news media

Might want to reread your thread title there, genius.

"the delusions individuals in regards to climate change???"

What?! And then a graph that wouldn't make any contextual sense of what you wrote?!

Climate change is bad. We've got these graphs though.

Hmm, just reread my post and thought of something.

Since most small businesses in energy-heavy industries rely on fossil fuels, they’d be completely fucked if their energy source were to be taken away from them - leaving the only alternative to start buying products from/go into business with the “big guys” that could afford to switch over to “green energy” before everyone else) - hilariously the same people that are being blamed, and are now complaining the world is fucked.

I wish I had inside information and knew what would be banned globally so I could pump and dump it. Fuckin’ genius actually.

Electric vehicles wont make enough of an impact before the cost of batteries starts to skyrocket, including the batteries in smartphones

If the west uses less fossil fuels, those that produce it will just sell it to the likes of India at cheaper prices and they will just consume more

World starts to run out of fossil fuels, its more likely to turn to biodiesel, then you'll have the situation in some countries where you have famine amongst millions because the land is being used for crops for biodiesel instead of food

If you are angry, its more likely to lead to a manic cycle

If you surround yourself with people that just tell you what you want to hear, you are more likely to just mope and sulk, which is more likely to lead to a depressive cycle, which is worse for you

Please continue the tête-à-tête's with Mustard Tiger as they are good sport, good therapy and he enjoys them as much as you do. I find them funny and entertaining

I think Jess and I ( for completely polar opposite reasons ) are the only ones here that do give a fuck about you, relatively speaking it is still the internet

Also: Dumb people never tell you to your face, but they resent you having above average intelligence that they do not have, but then wasting what they see as a perceived advantage by being lazy and unmotivated. So they actually want you to suffer so life becomes fairer and balance returns to the universe
