  • AOC's timing

I gave this one it's own thread
To me it seemed a crappy time to come out about a very vague sexual assault only to use it to attack the opposing political party, but some others might have a different opinion

US Democratic politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said she is a survivor of sexual assault.

"The congresswoman revealed her trauma as she accused Republicans who deflect blame for last month's Capitol riot of using "the tactics of abusers".

"I'm a survivor of sexual assault," she said, fighting back tears. "And I haven't told many people that in my life."

She has been one of the Democrats' biggest stars since her 2018 election.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez represents the 14th district in New York City, covering parts of the Bronx and Queens.

In an Instagram Live on Monday night, the 31-year-old disclosed little about her sexual assault ordeal, but said: "When we go through trauma, trauma compounds on each other."

She blasted conservative Republicans like Texas Senator Ted Cruz for denying what she described as their responsibility for the storming of the Capitol complex, which left five people dead.

After Mr Cruz last week agreed with Ms Ocasio-Cortez on a policy matter, she lashed out: "You almost had me murdered three weeks ago so you can sit this one out."

The Democratic politician said the violent storming of the Capitol made her relive past trauma.

She strikes me as the kind of woman who’d cry sexism if a man held the door open for her.

    I watched the whole thing
it was pretty harrowing. The sexual assault thing was a really tiny part of it, and I thought she made a pretty good parallel with it in terms of gaslighting and how the right wing of this country is going to spend the next few years pretending like what happened on the 6th wasn't a big deal and like her life and other lives werent in danger.
she didn't "come out" with it, she mentioned it briefly, like one sentence, in an hour long video to illustrate that she's familiar with gaslighting and other abuse tactics

If the BLM riots and the ridiculousness of that hadn't preceded the Capitol building, then what happened at the Capitol building on its own would have been more shocking and been taken more seriously
but as it stands now, all I have to do is post that mostly peaceful protests screenshot to make criticism of the Capitol building ridiculous

And as for AOC's revelation, people aren't going to take that as seriously as if she'd said it at another time that was independant of an attack on a political party

She Kevin Spacey'd herself, or maybe reverse Kevin Spacey'd herself is more accurate

Me: makes a point about gaslighting
VG: proceeds to gaslight by bringing up a completely unrelated event in an effort to minimize what happened on Jan 6

You know there's enough space for both the riots AND the duck dynasty coup to be a big deal, right?

This is why I dont even engage with you on serious topics anymore, VG. You're the biggest gaslighter there is

I'll leave you guys to the inevitable right wing circle jerk this thread is going to turn into. Have fun proving AOC's point, y'all

                The long definition of gaslighting

"Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment.[1] It may evoke changes in them such as cognitive dissonance or low self-esteem, rendering the victim additionally dependent on the gaslighter for emotional support and validation. Using denial, misdirection, contradiction, and misinformation, gaslighting involves attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim's beliefs."

                The short definition is misdirection

Whether it's amongst conservatives or liberals, I believe I would be in the minority that believe the BLM riots in the first place were more about Covid measure frustrations than race issues themselves

Calling them "mostly peaceful protests" is the very definition of gaslighting

Capitol building thing to a lesser extent, was in part from misdirected tension

Protests in Russia aren't solely about him locking up, then poisoning, the locking up again his main political rival, it's also about Putin not protecting his people from Covid effectively

There has been a noticeable uptick in political unrest across the world

Its happening slowly, but is most of the population of the world gaslighting themselves as a coping mechanism against the inevitability of covid

UK strain mutated spontaneously twice now inside 6 months, if it can now evade the bodies immune system, we are screwed, well 1.5% of us now are anyway

If covid had never happened, would the BLM riots been on the scale they were and lasted 5 months? I think not. If covid hadn't happened, US economy would have been motoring on like it was in 2019 and Trump would have gotten re-elected anyway, so the Capitol thing wouldn't have happened

Maybe the world has gone a little nuts and I'm one of the few sane ones

Can you imagine what would have happened if they found AOC or Pelosi, they would have fucked them up. And as soon as they, the protesters entered the Capital build they became an enemy of the United States and should be treated as so.

People who lost money or jobs because of the pandemic response were more likely to protest with Black Lives Matter.

"The ongoing violence has earned Oregon the distinction of having the largest arsenal of criminally charged domestic terrorists during a record-breaking year for homegrown terrorism in the U.S. In fact, in 2020 the Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated more domestic terrorism cases than any other year in the last decade and a half, according to figures provided by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), a data research center at Syracuse University. The records published by TRAC show that U.S. attorneys around the country filed 183 domestic terrorism cases in 2020, most of them related to nightly protests in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death during an arrest by Minneapolis Police. Seventy-eight of the cases were brought in Oregon, ground zero of leftist rioting. It marks the highest total of such cases since government tracking began a quarter of a century ago, TRAC confirms. “This compares with 69 such prosecutions in fiscal 2017, the first year of the Trump Administration, 63 domestic terrorism prosecutions during FY 2018, and 90 such prosecutions during FY 2019,” the research group writes in its report."

A record number of domestic terrorism cases were filed by federal prosecutors last year with the largest concentration in Oregon thanks to the ongoing riots there inspired by the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and its leftist supporters. For the past seven months Portland has been like a war zone with anarchists breaking into buildings, …
