In the wake of Gina Carano’s controversial social media posts, Lucasfilm has released a statement Wednesday night, with a spokesperson saying “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano played bounty hunter Cara Dune on the first two seasons Lucasfilm and Disney+’s The Mandalorian, and it looked like we’d be seeing more of her. It appears not.

Yeah, this one is a bit over the top.

I think it is ridiculous of her to equate Nazi persecution of Jews with people disliking other people due to their political opinions, because I think it is absolutely fine to dislike someone who want to deny you your rights or who enacts policies that funnel wealth to the already wealthy, etc., but I don't think it is anywhere close to the level of losing a job over it.

Maybe they never planned on bringing her back, but that seems unlikely since she was becoming more and more a part of the storyline (although I have to admit I don't think she is a very good actor.

but yeah, i don't really care what abhorrent (imo) views actors have, if i'm enjoying their acting.

i don't like the feeling that we're forcing people to hide their negative views out of fear of losing their jobs.

How was her freedom of speech violated?

I agree that losing her job for saying dumb shit seems a little much here (although maybe she wasnt going to be back on the show anyway, although that seems unlikely), but she wasn't stopped from saying what she wanted to say. Free speech doesn't mean that you get to say whatever you want without having to face any consequences.
