Do they exist or is some nonsense PUA’s invented in the 2000’s to sell books?

My own thoughts are its largely nonsense. But I also said ‘Index funds are for betas’ to a coworker today, because I’m also a hypocrite ? and obviously the concept of leadership exists. But generally I consider leadership something you do with people when they’ve stopped being good at doing stuff in their 40’s.

My response is "Isn't that what the Left does normally?", because I found it interesting she said that, when it seems that is what the Left generally does, and from her past post history I can safely assume that she is talking from a leftist perspective. I am stating that the Left in general, tends to put people in neat little boxes too (Racist, White Supremacist, etc) and I find it ironic that when the subject is switched to defining what types the people are (Alpha, Beta, etc) she made putting people in neat little boxes a bad or questionable thing. Iow, it all depends on the narrative. ?

i tried to google it, and since google always decides i'm trying to search for something similar to but different from what i typed, it decided to autocomplete to "alpha betas", which is a new cartoon that is disappointingly not a revenge of the nerds spinoff, but instead something weird about gamers who were hired by the government for some weird operation.

then i changed the search terms to "alpha beta male" and got a top link on why it's a myth, followed by PUA stuff.

People like to think in binary form. 2 opposites:

Man and woman
Good and Evil
Black and White
Mom and Dad
Leftist and Rightist
Success and Failure
Alpha and Beta

and so forth and so on

When you see people who are strong minded and successful, with leadership traits, stand up for themselves, they are deemed Alpha. Weak minded, self loathing, miserly people who are submissive and fall behind in life are deemed Betas. This is binary thinking.

I think there are men and women who fall into alpha and beta categories. At the same time I don’t think it’s entirely finite. For example, one who is alpha in their love life, but a complete beta in their professional life.

so yes. Alphas and betas exist.

Guys what is PUA-I have heard the term many times now (only here though) and google didn’t yield much useful info-I found one website that referenced “pick up artists?” Seems like a subset of the incel community, or at least the same types of people. Does that track?

They probably exist in the sense that some people find the term a useful way to label a pattern of behavior that they see in others. Are they absolute categories of life people? Nah.
