It's already being talked about in the beach party thread so we may as well begin the proper discussion.

I'll keep this OP edited to list the potential locations, and everyone can discuss for the next eight months. Nothing has to be definite yet, but please don't get involved unless there is at a fairly good chance you're going to join. If somewhere listed is an absolute No for someone who definitely wants to come, it gets taken off the list. More suggestions, please make them.

And these are all going to be either cold, or have to do it in summer time. I cannot travel in the summertime, but there's no reason more than one meet up couldn't happen, especially for the Americans. You guys could do a summer time one.

As of now, I could probably only do destinations within driving distance, which of desirable locations would limit me to California (San Francisco, or here in San Diego) and Nevada (Las Vegas).

San Diego is the only one of those which could have beach festivities later in the year, but San Francisco has more landmarks. There is an alcohol ban on beaches in San Diego as well.

i have a strong preference toward warmth. but really i'm pretty open to whatever. fuck it, i'll take a ski trip if that's what everyone wants to do.

i don't think san diego is unique for the beach alcohol ban. pretty much every beach i've ever been to has an alcohol ban, and in pretty much every case that has actually meant "we really need to you buy plastic cups before coming to our beach".

Here's a picture of Mel's mountains in the fall. This is more as a general FYI, because I'm not really pushing too hard to do 2022 around here. That means I'll have to be the organizer and I'm not ready for that role (maybe in 2023). Plus a warm location does sound desirable

i've seen your area in the fall though, i'll attest that it's quite gorgeous. i also know of some legit mountains (no possibility of being called foothills) that aren't super far from that area, but not close enough to be considered mel's. also, they're farther north so more of an early fall option at best.

I dunno how strictly it's enforced. Regardless, one of the more popular beaches has a bunch of bars leading up to it.
