    Are perspectives different from opinions?

    Why or why not?

    #2
I would say perspectives are a series of opinions, some of them possibly picked up by osmosis. I think for the most part, a lot of opinions aren't nessecarily considered, and we all rub off on each other more than we'd like to admit.

Free will is a lie. Happy Thursday!

I think opinions generally include some sort of judgment and an attachment to an idea

Whereas perspective is based on experience and may not necessarily include judgment and attachment. Perspective can influence opinion but they are not the same

I see opinions as narrower, more specific than perspectives. Opinions can be formed instantly. Gaining a perspective takes much longer.

A perspective is a view, an opinion is a thought.

I think.. Perspective is how you view things. Like "I see bicycle lanes and I know cyclists use them" but opinion is like "most cyclists are reckless and don't even use the bike lane" which is entrenched with experience, however biased that experience may be

Indeed. The thing about opinions though is that they can be transferred, right or wrong. Your example is perfect. I know I've seen cyclists do stupid shit, but that was maybe 4 or 5 of them over years/decades. The vast majority of the ones I have seen are traveling in the bike lane normally. But for some reason the few assholes have opened up a wider opinion that my perspective doesn't illuminate.

This is because I am reacting to the opinions of others. When I was in Turkey cyclists were all over the place, no bike lanes. Most of them weaved in and out of the cars and the drivers often had to brake to avoid hitting them. I was told that hitting a cyclist would have a dozen of them attacking you in minutes. Turkish pedal gangs I guess.

So my opinion is shaded by the opinions of others. My perspective is all my own, unless it's ultimately wrong and someone is able to point this out to me.

Even if your perspective is wrong and someone is able to point that out to you, it could still be all yours in origin.
