It's not part of the Skywalker saga (which consists of 9 episodes and is now complete). But is set between episode 3 and 4 and ends with the beginning of episode 4 (as you probably know episode 4 is the oldest Star wars movie).
Turning that saga into 9 instead of 6 episodes was a bad decision imo.
I value 1-3 mostly for how it expands on the SW universe and certain characters. There's definitely a lot to nag on for me too moviewise, but yeah.. also a lot to love Far less so with 7-9
The new ones were just...I dunno. At least they got the aesthetic right. People try to say, "Well the Old Republic was different." But literally the last scene of Revenge of the Sith transitions into late seventies sci-fi in the most abrasive way...trying to smoothly bridge the gap into a New Hope. Which may be the perfect example of how clumsy the prequels were, if nothing else.
The new ones were just dull. I was pretty excited in the beginning for some demonic quasi-Satanism when I saw Kylo's Saber in the first trailer...
The reason all these movies fail is cause they aren't heavy or dark enough. They think it's for kids, but Star Wars ain't for kids.
They're just gonna keep making safe paint-by-numbers movies...at least where the 9 are concerned.
I could have made those movies so heavy people would have walked out of the theater like it was the Exorcist. This is just fucking kids stuff. Cause Lucas wanted a franchise. Wants to sell lunch boxes.
They tried to be darker...with 7-9, that's the funny part. These guys like Abrams, though, they've never seen darkness. They're clueless. Kyle Ren's whole character is preposterous. I mean, if we're gonna blur the lines between light and dark that much, then just let the fucker take over the galaxy. Even Snokes was just a regular old dick.
So...they suddenly kill him? Their lead nemesis...like that...and replace him with their old villain...cause their lives are so emotionally comatose they never had a conceptualized villain in Snokes to begin with.
