Does anyone actually enjoy Apocalypse Now ?

I have only seen it twice, and found it an ordeal to watch every time. And don't get me started on the Extended Redux edition either.

I am not a fan of War Films much generally (love The Deer Hunter and Platoon) but Apocalypse Now is just a load of overrated shit.

Not even Marlon Brando (an actor I greatly admired) could save it.

I recall enjoying it but I don't remember much of the movie. Appropriate place to post this though...

I completely enjoyed both depictions/versions of the movie. I enjoyed the Redux more than the Theatrical version.

Apocalypse Now: Final Cut" is a 4K three hour restoration that I'm looking forward to seeing soon as I can.

I understand where you're coming from. You have to read Heart of Darkness to get close to what was happening. But it had interesting bits:

What I can't find is another segment where the Playmates are essentially stranded at an Army depot deep in the jungle and need a ride out. The guys from the boat are more than happy to oblige.

It was ok. Seen it while in lsd. War movies are ok. Although I haven’t watched one in a long time.
also, full metal jacket has a good rendition of marine corps boot camp. Although mine was not exactly like that. The marines have a certain way of brainwashing that is not like any other. Definitely mastered. I was the honor graduate of Platoon 2015, 1990. Parris Island. I was former service when I went through which gave the DI’s an extra target

Arguable already. But my former comment here was in reference to Pete's mentioning of your service to the GREATEST COUNTRY (which is undeniably the glorious nation of the Netherlands)

I have to see the movie again to give a proper verdict. That I'm not really looking forward to that does say something im afraid

I kind of had my fill of post 1900s warfare themed movies for a long time. Did enjoy the last few high quality ones about WW1 though

CGI ruined all the good ones in the last decade or so
That Nicholas Cage one with the Indianapolis would have been awesome if it wasn't for the shitty CGI. Good story, but then half way through it turns into Sharknado

Then there was that Mel Gibson one, Hacksaw ridge, I don't know why he needed the shitty CGI in that one at all, they couldn't just go find a real cliff?

                Apocalypse now, slow and boring

Full Metal Jacket still the best

I actually enjoyed Hacksaw Ridge FWIW. Well directed and shot movie with authentic acting performances.

Without shitty CGI would have been a 10/10

                    With shitty CGI 8/10

                  I didn't get it. I was bored.

Most Vietnam movies are vastly overrated with the exception of Platoon.

I didn't know if that counted but if it does, absolutely.
